27. My Dad is a WWII vet--he told me that the Army provided his first encounters with African Americans

Prior to that, he would have never considered striking up a friendship with someone black--but he found a few kindred souls there, especially one young man who became a close friend.

Unfortunately, once back in 1940's America, the two of them parted ways and went back to their old lives--but still richer for having known each other. I think that experience opened my dad's mind--and obviously those other vets in the picture!--to accepting an African American Commander-in-Chief.

For me, someone who won't rest until all the powerless ones have a voice, it's just awesome to see!
