What would you like for President Obama to say in his D-Day speech?
If you could have any input on what you would like him to say, what would it be?

Things he should say, or things he shouldn't?

8. And it's for just such a thought that the DUzy Awards were created.
I know I sort of lost the plot there around Season 3 when I did that whole "Who Shot JR with the Last Episode of M*A*S*H on the Next Episode of CSI: Boise Meets Son of Sanford and Son and Eddie's Father and Two and a Half Odd Couples" but that seemed like an obvious answer too, at the time.

God, D-day, WWII and The Holocaust had such a profound effect on me, and I was born in 1963. I went to classes on The Holocaust at a Jewish synagogue in my late teens. I would love for him to capture how it was in the 40 years after the end of the war, before Reagan. The younger ones have no idea how much Reagan and the culture he spawned fucked everything up. Our ideals after WWII were pretty good. They were certainly not perfect, but we were on the right track. We had made great strides with civil rights and even women's rights, and we were probably a culture that gave a shit about others for awhile, but someone had to come along and put a wrench in everything. Most importantly, I want him to remember our grandfathers and grandmothers, and how much they sacrificed, and all of those who lived through this incredible time. They had no choice, really, but they rose to the task. I always hated Brokaw's use of the phrase, 'The Greatest Generation', but you'd be hard-pressed to meet finer people than those who survived The Great Depression and WWII.

3. Honor those who fought to end Nazi tyranny. Recognize shared obligation to never let happen again.
That works for me. I will leave the rest up to him. I predict a simple speech, but profound. Maybe something along the lines of:

". . . It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us—that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion—that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain—that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom—and that government : of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the Earth."
