1. Oh, gawd. You never know what you'll get with Bok.

He generally leans right in his cartoons, and this one goes beyond that. It edges toward amusing, but the imagery and overtones are unfortunate.

Not his best effort.

At first it didn't make sense to me. I was thinking, "Obama wouldn't encourage people to be taking shots at her." But if you consider him taunting the GOP because he outplayed them again, it's funny.

22. So...Obama has lynched Sotomayor...so Republicans could beat her like a pinata...

and there are a bunch of cameras...and Obama is smug and wearing a sombrero...and the Republicans are afraid to beat the Sotomayor pinata in front of the cameras. I don't really understand what all this means.

I mean, I get the basic gist of it, but the execution is insane. The position of the rope and the fact that Sotomayor doesn't look like a pinata at all notwithstanding, the comic doesn't even begin to show what makes this a different state of affairs. SCOTUS nominees always have to face Congress, and there are always cameras there. Is it because she's Puerto Rican and Republicans don't want to look racist? How is it that putting Obama in a sombrero demonstrates that?
