Ok kids, we ....... or should I say ...... you lol ...... have been offically given persmission to hold President's feet to the Proverbial fire.... have at it!

(doesn't mean *I* have to like it though ha ha)

Is the man not brilliant? .... takes his protestors and blunts them a bit by AGREEING with them ... or at least their actions. But Note: Protestors may want to make LARGER more EASY TO READ signs next time lol.

1. So very few would ever acknowledge protestors so respectfully and effectively.
Some might say he was dismissive, but we've seen at other public events how he will instead ask them to speak.

Bush and others would have had them all removed, jailed, subjected to extraordinary rendition for all we know...

Was that from last night, do you know?

9. I think that was a bit of spin on the President's part....
... because saying "I'm not sure what they were protesting" souns a WHOLE lot better politically than "they were protesting my lack of movement on Prop 8 and DADT." ;)

I would imagine he was more than clear on what they were protesting.

...of the story to emphasize how open to criticism he is, instead of emphasizing a specific promise he has yet to keep.

53. you mischaracterized NYC's post, denigrating it to "your big argument...better than Bush"
in fact NYC said, "So very few would ever acknowledge protestors so respectfully and effectively."

NYC said that Obama met a standard only "very few" would meet.

That's completely different than him saying "Obama was better than Bush".

Not fair.

2. I remember at a rally in Florida
there were some real angry protesters demanding that Obama answer a question about Sean Bell. They kept heckling him. Obama promised the guy leading the angry group that when he was done answering one question, he would get to him, and sure enough he did, but by the time Obama gave him his attention, the guy acted like he couldn't speak LOL

.... because, without question, those protesting in favor of GLBT rights mean him NO physical harm, they like him, that's why they're upset. But anyway, wouldn't that be something to watch? You can never be too safe though.

I know, if I lived in the White House, one of the hardest things would be having protestors across the street and not being able to at least engage them in a dialogue. :)

20. proof of what?
He made a specific campaign promise to the gay community to overturn DADT.

Now the Pentagon has announced that the firing of gay and lesbian servicepeople will continue, and will for 'some time'. Need more studies, you see, even though countless studies have been done - some quite recent - that support allowing us to openly serve.

His silence on every one of our issues has been deafening. I don't need to give you 'proof' of this. Read his public comments. He didn't even have the guts to throw us a bone last night in Beverly Hills.

"lol". Yeah, I'm laughing my ass off.

32. Pres. Obama did express support before the Prop 8 vote & he cut a "Vote NO on 8" ad at that time.
Edited on Thu May-28-09 03:19 PM by ClarkUSA
Here's the text of the ad featuring Obama, Feinstein, and Schwarzenegger:

VISUAL

Shot of Barack Obama close-up, NO on 8 “divisive and discriminatory” Cut to close-up of Arnold Schwarzenegger, NO on 8 “it should never happen”

Cut to close-up of Dianne Feinstein, NO on 8 Prop 8 “eliminates rights,” “terrible mistake”

Cut to close-up of teacher, NO on 8 “will not affect teaching in our schools,” California Teachers Association

Cut to graphic: Daily News “intolerant,” Union-Tribune “offensive,” San Jose Mercury-News “the law should not discriminate”

Cut to Dianne Feinstein Dianne Feinstein:

AUDIO

(VO): Barack Obama says NO on 8, It’s divisive and discriminatory

(VO): Arnold Schwarzenegger says it should never happen

(VO): Prop 8 eliminates rights says Dianne Feinstein. It’s a terrible mistake

(VO): It will not affect teaching in our schools say California’s teachers

(VO): It’s intolerant, offensive, and the law should not discriminate

No matter how you feel about marriage, vote against discrimination, and vote NO on 8

According to Andrew Sullivan, the anti-Prop 8 forces inexplicably and stupidly never bothered to use this ad when it could have made a difference.

As for making a joke "about it": as someone who feels the same way, it's clear to me that he was referencing the 24/7 vitriol aimed at just about every one of his decisions since coming to office. The crowd "got" it, too. The MSM always wants to stir up shit, though.

36. No shit ..
Did you READ what a wrote before going into full throttle defense mode?

I SAID I don't expect these things to done tomorrow. YOU don't have to tell ME what Obama did (or tried to do) to help defeat Prop 8. I know that the dumb fucks running that mess fucked up.

MY point is that DOMA, DADT are things he has spoke of being against. My point is that I feel that Obama was flippant in his remarks. Sure as fuck came off that way to me. I saw the fucking clip.

This comes on the heels of the Cal Sups chicken shit ruling on Prop 8. I think the President could have been more sympathetic.

With Miss Donnie (ex-gay .... it's only one song) McClurkin hosting a rally and having Rick fucking Warren at the inauguration ... oh and how about "Let's go to Iowa and make it official" joke ... Obama's track record hasn't been too fucking great these days.

And as for those that "got it" at the fundraiser .... protesters at the event said they were face to face with these so-called "liberals" as they left the event and these "progressive" looked at them as if they were the skum of the earth.

I'm not interested in refighting the primaries or entertaining emotionally biased hearsay. There are two sides to every story.

You're entitled to your opinion but I disagree that President Obama was being "flippant" so much as he was making a self-deprecating remark about the 24/7 grievances that accompany every single decision he makes. I saw the video, too. Like I said, I can see why he said it... but I have a sense of humor.

One of those "pesky" little protesters was a soldier that was thrown out of the army because of DADT. This one another one of those soldiers that was a translator. You remember those? The ones that Bush allowed to be thrown out because of DADT? Remember the outrage in DU about that??

Oh, but it's different now that Obama is president, right?

I wanted Barack to make some sort of statement of support because right NOW these wounds are VERY raw right now.

I love how you always throw out the "I don't want to re-hash the primary". What a fucking joke.

President Obama was the only presidential candidate who said he wanted to fully repeal DOMA. He should not be blamed for the fuck-ups of prior presidents, but he is, constantly and often for not doing enough fast enough by too many folks who should know better. That's what his joke was about. His supporters here and at the fundraiser get it. He did more than other Dem presidential candidates to support LGBT advocates re: Prop 8 but if you want to speculate subjectively on the meaning of a simple joke that never referenced Prop 8 as a rationalization to refight the primaries and attack our President, then go ahead. Like I said, you're entitled to your opinion, even if I don't agree with it.

Your illogical insistence that I prove a negative is another example of how ridiculous your demands are on every level. It's not me who is "Talking out of two sides our you mouth as usual. Can't back up shit." I proved my points ably; unlike you, the Daily Kos diarist offers multimedia evidence to back up their claims instead of thirdhand hearsay from emotionally biased observers, which would not be admissible in any civil court in the land. But since this is a "fucking blog" then you would know that and give your own rhetoric the null value it is due.

Got it.

61. Doesn't change the fact that the silence is deafening...
Meanwhile... More casualties of DADT and I'm still a 2nd class citizen (at best).

I'm really SO very sorry if our pressing of this issue is so terribly inconvenient for you all. :eyes:

Edited on Fri May-29-09 06:33 AM by ClarkUSA
Did you really expect 16-year-old DADT to be repealed by Congress after four months of President Obama being in office with everything else that has been on Congress' plate? It takes legislative time and effort to fix the damned messes left behind by Bubba and Bush II. There are 44 months to go in his term. He's always made fixing the economy and healthcare reform his and Congress' top two domestic priorities for the first year of his term and that's what is going to happen.

Give us SOME kind of indication that DADT or DOMA are being addressed (not that I think you don't have some convenient excuse for him there, too). SOMETHING. ANYTHING!

80. Sorry, but I disagree.....
But I suppose it's unfair of me to expect you to know how it feels to have lived half of one's life as a 2nd class citizen (I'm almost 40- close enough to middle-age). And by the look of things, the fabled "change" is STILL nowhere on the horizon.

So feel free to continue to handle us nuclear gays with kid gloves- I, for one, have come to expect no better from our government and, here lately, from supposed progressive people and/or websites. Just don't tell me that it's all "sour grapes" and "poutrage" when you haven't walked the proverbial mile in MY shoes. When you get fired because of whom you fall in love with, or get attacked by rednecks in the parking lot of a (gay) nightclub, or be denied 1000+ basic benefits because you aren't allowed to enter into a civil contract... When even ONE of those things happens to you- THEN, tell me it's sour grapes. Until such time- your lips are moving, but there's nothing coming out but empty air.

Speaking of self-righteous hypocrisy... is this more "hurling" of "insults" I see? Hmmm... I wonder how outraged you'd be if someone referred to you and others here as "you and the rest of the bleating sheep"? :eyes:

Complain all you want but don't expect me to agree with you and don't attack those who disagree with your denigrating comments towards the President given that the reality-based legislative context of your personal demands is that President Obama and the Congress have 44 months left to his term in order to try to legislatively correct Bubba's DOMA and DADT fuck-ups. I've got plenty of issues I want Pres. Obama to publicly mention and focus on but I sure as hell am realistic enough to know there's only so much he can say and do right now and that there's time enough to correct things in the years to come. Too bad you don't, apparently.

"I wonder how outraged you'd be if someone referred to you and others here as "you and the rest of the bleating sheep"?" An hourly event in the GLBT forum- you can set your watch by it!

But, I'll just go ahead and assume that you approve of THOSE instances of insults.

I've never said that I expect you to agree with me. But until I see actual proof that Mr. President hasn't shoved me, and my GLBT family under a bus after making very specific promises, you bet your ass I'll lob a denigrating comment when the spirit moves me.

If he's got the time to attend upper-crust fundraisers, he sure as hell has time to at least speak up.

Then you can bet your ass that Democratic supporters will stand up for our Democratic President on Democratic Underground against your baseless denigrating attacks because President Obama never made "very specific promises" to repeal DADT and DOMA within a specific amount of time nor did he ever promise to make regular public statements about the issue (BTW, you do know that Presidents as a rule do NOT comment on state issues like the Prop 8 ruling, right?) so your melodramatic "under the bus" framing after four months of incumbency is as misguided as it is premature.

91. Wholly fallacious...
seems to be going around... "Hello Kettle? This is pot- guess what? You're black."

1. I've already gone on record to state that NO- I did not expect a full repeal of DADT or DOMA in 4 months. Can we please get over that?

2. The attacks are hardly baseless. It started with the vehement homophobe Revrund Rick Warren debacle and has steadily rolled down a hill of shit ever since.

3. It's only "melodramatic" to you, because it doesn't affect you in any way. So great. Happy that everything in YOUR life is just hunkee-dunkee. Congratulations, and here's your complementary gift certificate. Whatever. It simply ain't so for everybody in this country (BTW, you do know that GLBT people live in this country too, right?).

4. Go right ahead and stand up for the President. By all means- Have at it. And, when I see fit- I'll do the same (as I did most wholeheartedly during the election). But not right now, and CERTAINLY not just because YOU say that MY concerns are "misguided" and "premature."

Don't "assume that" I "approve of THOSE instances of insults." It's a wholly fallacious assumption. It's fugly to talk to anyone like that. I have made no similar assumptions or insults about you as you have made towards me in this subthread, nor will I -- now or in the future. As for the rest of your reply: I concur with #1; I disagree with #2; I will ignore the gratuitous snark in #3; and I acknowledge #4.

That's the big difference. Since you have no idea what's happening/happened in my life, I felt it was inappropriate of you to mock my personal circumstances/state of mind in such an extended and sarcastic manner. So I ignored #3 rather than return the mocking snark, which would have gotten us nowhere fast.

Edited on Thu May-28-09 06:41 PM by cascadiance
So he can know what people are upset about in terms of the promises they are concerned about. Yeah, it could be any number of issues (government transparency, the war, gay rights, etc.). But if people have to yell to him during his speeches for him to hear something (and not even know what they are complaining about), "Hey Barack!! We have a communication problem!!!" And its the damn media stupid!! They need to be "fixed" so that people can collectively know more what's going on, and they in Washington can HEAR what we are PO'd about!

You can't afford to wait for our "blessing" to go after the media Barack. You're going to have to fix that problem first before we can work together and communicate the way you say we should!
