I trust Obama to balance and weigh important principles, for now.
He has released memos pertaining to the legal rationalizations of torture. Yet, he is resisting the release of photos. I do not believe releasing abuse photos will cause troops to lose their lives but Obama was so advised. If you stipulate that argument there would be two important principles involved: open government and safety.

I think it is reasonable to trust Obama to balance those principles, despite being unconvinced at this time that their is a safety concern to balance. I have a bit of pause knowing that Obama is privy to information that I am not.

I think we will see him facilitate more open government than we could have dreamed of in the past 8 years. This President is a thinker. I won't always agree with his judgment but am delighted we have a President who is capable and works at it. He has demonstrated this time and time again. He is earned my trust on these issues, for now.

1. My big concern at this point is how much is there to him coming from being a Senator....
Edited on Thu May-14-09 11:11 PM by LakeSamish706
affecting some of his judgements... ie: Arlen Specter becoming a Democrat with full Obama support? And other similar things from the Senate that both he and VP Biden and SOS Clinton came from? I never gave this much thought before, but as we move along and see some of what is unfolding both in TARP and bailing out of AIG, and the situation with banks and credit cards... Does this become an issue? I hope not....

Crap.. Did I finally get that post right? Wow that was tough to spit out...

5. So was Bush though.
And no, I'm not comparing Bush to Obama (though I'm sure some brain dead simpletons will see it that way).

If just being privy to stuff that we aren't is so special, so trust inducing, why criticize any president on anything? Isn't it possible then that they ALL know better than us on everything? At what point is it ok to question a president who knows more than us...as they all do?

4. I don't trust anyone after the past 8 years.... And (for all the good it might do) I think...
we should call them on it as well.

I voted, supported and donated to the Obama Primaries and General and feel I have a right to know what is going on....

8. All that's going on is
the administration doesn't want the "headache" of having to prosecute the previous administrations crimes. Nothing to see here...move along.

10. That's about it
If you're not going to get rid of and prosecute the torturers, and the policy makers, what difference does not releasing the photos make? I've put my trust in the ACLU.

11. I agree. I'm giving him about 3 weeks to see where this goes.
B/c I know eventually a reasoning will come out and I'll be surprised, as well everyone else.

13. I'm cautiously optimistic about Obama.
I'm not happy with things he's doing right now, but i'm in a "wait and see" mode and wont be too quick to judge till i see his true agenda play out. I frankly think if putting the torture thing on hold or downplaying it in order to get single payer, or whatever Obama's "Public plan" is out there then I'm ok with him prioritizing for now. I still hold on to the belief that he wants to get a lot of these things we want done, but has realized he needs to slow down and delegate as well as take on one major project at a time.

But if thing with healthcare keeping going down the "Big Pharma, Ins Co own the congress" route, and Obama doesn't take a stand for the people over the money, then that's a different story and this major obama supporter will be ready to protest with the other Obama naysayers.

I just think for now we got use to Obama's 100 days speed, and as he slows down to single focus mode, some of us are going to get impatient and start bitching, I want to try not to do that.
