**Heads Up: POTUS to address non-release of photos shortly...***
At least that's what MSNBC is saying ..... the White House is calling it "an address concerning the situation in Sri Lanka."

We shall see.

(I spent a chunk of the afternoon looking for a missing cat .... what in the world is happening in Sri Lanka?)

1. This is the first I"ve heard about no photos being released. There is NO excuse and for the first
time, I am infuriated with this new administration. I'll be fine with "no pictures" as long as right behind it comes the line: "All people involved in TORTURE WILL BE PROSECUTED".

Then, we don't need the damned pictures. Now, unfortunately, we do.

2. We need the photos released and prosecutions of the bush war criminals.

An open society doesn't cover up the dirt.

And a society that believes in the rule of law holds those responsible accountable.

Neither principole are contingent on the other principle.

5. There are several threads on DU right now addressing this issue.
He's directing the DOJ to oppose release, but it's up to the courts.

16. Slight difference
I'm slightly, but only slightly, more comfortable with the concept of wanting to have the authority to pick and choose what photos get released. There are real people in these photos and some of the innocents may have cause to not want them released. I'm dubious this is what he is arguing, but there is a very narrow space where I can see him arguing one thing in court, and doing another as a matter of "choice".

17. I can see your point.
As for the innocent, it would be easy enough to blur their faces.

Police don't release graphic crime scene photos. And I don't recall the public screaming for release of the death photos of Matthew Shepherd, James Bird, or anyother victim of a heinous hate crime.

We already know people were abused/tortured at Abu, and there was an investigation and some low-level saps were thrown under the military bus, and send to prison. It's over. Investigations aren't reopened so that a different group of investigators/prosecutors can try their hand at prosecuting a different group of people for a crime that was already investigated and tried.

It's over.
