RNC to Hold Extraordinary Special Session to Call Democrats Socialists
These guys are on a death spiral. Hilarity it is.

RNC to Rebrand Democrats as "Socialists"

A RNC member tells Roger Simon that when committee members meet in an extraordinary special session next week, they will approve a resolution rebranding Democrats as the "Democrat Socialist Party."

RNC Chairman Michael Steele didn't want the meeting to be held, but members exercised "a rarely used party rule that allows any 16 RNC members from 16 different states to demand a special meeting" forcing Steele's hand.

"A further comeuppance -- a vote of 'no confidence' in Steele -- is not being contemplated, I am informed, because Steele's opponents in the RNC have already won a major victory by forcing him to accept greater controls on how he spends party funds."

1. What a waste of energy
They could use all that energy to actually come up with some constructive ideas and make themselves useful. But no, they'd rather hate and make idiots of themselves.

4. So this is what happens when only 20% of registered voters identify as Republican.
This is what happens when one's ideology is completely irrelevant.

Hilarity ensues.

7. If they actually follow through with this, it will be interesting to see if
the Repukes actually try to use this term in media appearances and if they do, whether the media allow them to get away with it.

9. Even Neil Boortz was scoffing at this...
asking, in so many words, "why don't the Republicans have a special session to work up an education bill or a health care program or a fair tax or solutions to the economic problems?"

24. What's even funnier is what they say when asked if Steele has to call democrats that now
I saw an article (I think maybe at politico) where one of those RNC people was asked "so if this resolution passes does that mean that Steele has to call the democrats the 'democrat socialist party'". The answer by an RNC member who intends to vote for this resolution, "who cares".

Even they admit that this is just a publicity stunt by saying 'Who cares' to the question of if that means they have to start calling democrats that now.

The Republicans have even less respect left for Steele than we do.

29. This is the difference between the Democrats and the Republicans.
Sure, there are plenty of Democrats who like to call Republicans fascist and such, and there are plenty of Democrats who believe any tinfoil they come across about Bush and Cheney. We keep them in safe little pressure-release valves like DU and Kos, while the moderate majority works on keeping up a respectable, approachable, sane-looking face.

In the Republican party, the freepers are actually in control. Their name-calling and Obamaphobic tinfoil are the public face of the party. They've completely lost track of the distinction between the base and the fringe.

34. breaking news....
Today, in a stunning display of "post-partisan" magnanimity, Congressional Democrats unanimously voted to create a new subcommittee and allow the GOP to retain chairmanship in perpetuity. The subcommittee is purportedly titled "The Congressional Subcommittee on Irrelevancy and Boneheaded Ideas". The first committee meeting is scheduled to be held next Tuesday, unless the little green imps in Chairwoman Bachmann's head advise otherwise.
...snip...
