White House plans to release plane flyover report, photo
(CNN) -- The White House indicated Wednesday that a report and a photo from the controversial low-altitude New York flyover by a 747 plane used as Air Force One could be released soon.

*snip*

"The report, I believe, will be concluded at some point this week. We'll release its findings and release a photo," White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said during his daily press briefing.

The review, led by Deputy Chief of Staff Jim Messina, will focus on "why that decision was made and to ensure that it never happens again," Gibbs said.

The flyover, officials said, was training mission -it was also a government-sanctioned photo shoot.

This is the first mention that is was a "training mission." Just hope there is something else going on in the news next week as I don't think I can take another round of the cablecritters going on and on and on about this....

That was the whole point, it was a combined training mission/photo op/really dumb idea. :)

2. Of course, this type of photo-op/training exercise was done by Bush, Clinton, et al.
It's nothing new, but the drama is bigger due to the 911 event.

No need to hold President Obama to a higher standard, I'm sure plenty of bullshit money-wasting things are still going on that have slipped the attention of the Commander in Chief.

Over time we can expect that such things get picked up and dealt with.

3. A family member
who works on Wall Street, and was in lower Manhattan on 9-11, hates Obama and is convinced that he did it on purpose to send Wall Street a message. He's totally freaked out over it.

5. i assume

He hated Obama before last weeks event, correct? So anything that he can pin on Obama is OK in his mind I'm sure.

To be fair though.. Had this happened last year, 70% on this board would have been screaming Bush conspiracy too.. Its always fun to blame the power that is in control, especially when you dislike them!

10. Yes,
he attacked Obama for my benefit a couple of months ago. In a pricey restaurant where my husband and I had taken him to dinner. He was teasing me that Obama would be impeached when the true nature of his connections with the seamy side of Chicago politics was revealed. It was done in a teasing manner, but, after a martini and a half a glass of wine, I went off on him, which was totally out of character for me. "Of course he will be impeached," I said, raising my voice for the benefit of the rest of the diners. "The corporate elite will NEVER let him get away with his plans to undo all of the abuses of the Bush/Cheney administration. Why wouldn't they attempt to impeach him?" I shocked myself.

It is true that seeing the other side's reactions to Obama has been an eye opener for someone who was completely paranoid over Bush/Cheney.

8. That's one creative mind your friend has there.
Jeeze, if you want to send Wall Street a message and you're president there are better ways.

11. Just so they don't decide to drop the "O"
in the middle of the Financial District wearing a codpiece and carrying a sign that says "Mission Accomplished."

On second thought ...

4. training mission - explanation - pilots are required to maintain readiness with a minimum number of
flight hours a month. In order to keep all of the pilots above the minimum number it is necessary for them to take trips with no passengers and these are all classified as "training missions".

They also look to combine it with other needs, like a requested photo op from the PR department.

9. Thank you, couldn't have said it better.
Of course it was bad judgment, this particular exercise, but it doesn't merit the over-reaction I'm seeing here.
