Employers DON"T WANT to provide benefits if they can help it!
Edited on Thu May-07-09 08:27 AM by Phoebe Loosinhouse
What part of that don't the brain-dead Washington politicos trying to preserve our current healthcare system understand?

Why do so many companies have employees who work 32 hours a week? Could it be because 35 hours a week is the precious "full-time" line in the sand that triggers benefits? Duh.

As a result, we have "over-employed" Americans who work mulitple part-time jobs in order to cobble together a living income (and yet they still don't have healthcare) AND we have the artifically "under-employed" - those who are purposefully kept in a part-time status to avoid benefits.

One change in labor law - health care coverage must be provided to ALL employees, regardless of full/part time status and I think you would hear a united voice from employers for a government option.

1. The washington politicos are completely out of touch with Americans' lives.
They don't hear themselves talk. They have gold plated health care but complain about the idea of Medicare for everyone. It's always what's good for business and the people suffer. You are right, they are brain dead and have been so for years. Perhaps Obama's "glimmers of hope" will emerge in new policies that help the people, not the careers of business as usual politicians...

2. I work for a multinational (overseas-based) company
and they just downgraded the medical coverage for everyone in the States, partially to reduce the cost of their share of the COBRA payments when they lay off people.

3. The majority of the time 100% of Cobra coverage goes to the former employee

Your employer is more generous than most if they assume any part of Cobra payments.
