5. I agree
He is going to try to humiliate whoever is nominated and he will cement the demise of the Repug party. If the nominiee is a minority, a women he is going to be vicious.

They simply don't get it.....they are consuming themselves in front of our very eyes. It is gross and disturbing but oh so facinating to watch...

25. Thanks--the good citizens of Alabama gotta be just BURSTIN' with pride over this guy
actually , I'm sure plenty of em are....which once again , reiterates the point that its the millions of criminally ignorant bigots that keep voting for people like this that are the problem...Sessions and those like him are just the public face of something ugly and sickening that lurks just behind them.

34. Me too. We got Carter Dean's pic taken with the good doctor last year. Yay!
But back to the reason we are all here - I'll drive over to Alabama with you and TP this a-holes yard if you want to. We could totally make it a DU roadtrip. I'm sure uly is up for it and Casper and Krebs! Think about it. We would be DU legends (after we got out of jail). I bet you everyone could get Skinner to ok a fundraiser for our bail money.

11. Thank you Rachel
I am so glad she is bringing attention to this guy with such bigoted views. I am sure it is not a coincidence that the Republicans picked him to be the chair. It sure is scary that someone with those beliefs sits in a position of power. I applaud the congress for denying him judicial ship back in the 80s but it is a shame that the people of Alabama voted him into the senate, but its Alabama so no surprise.

26. Agreed. Rachel is doing the world a service by bringing attention to Sessions
That man has lost whatever he had of his mind. And I don't care if his daddy, grandpappy whoever or anyone taught him to be that way; you make your own choice about the person you want to be when you come out of puberty. For him to be as old as he is and still that stupid and racist is HIS choice and he needs to be called on it.

I believe that anyone who the president nominates will help Sessions to discredit himself before the entire world. It's going to be fascinating watching Sessions try and match wits with an Obama choice.

37. Jeff Sessions is gay?
i joined this website just so i could post this as i thought it interesting:
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/the_big_picture/2009/04/outraged-kirby-dick-kicks-open-washingtons-closet-door-.html
Bible Thumping Homosexual hating Republicans who are Gay need to be outed...family values is one of the Republicans manta..I hope the film included Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions whom was my sex partner while in law school at the University of Alabama.. if I had come forward with the information no one would have believed me. He's married with Children and a past Sunday school teacher all of this which has offered him good cover for 30+ years.

now there's obviously no proof other than this guy blogging it's truth, but seeing as others have thought he might be gay... if anyone knows who this is, i wonder if they could be 'outed' to get sessions 'outed'..

38. Jefferson Beauregard "Jeff" Sessions III...a turd in the senate punchbowl
Sessions had unsuccessfully prosecuted three civil rights workers (including Albert Turner, a former aide to Martin Luther King, Jr), on a case of election fraud for the 1984 election. Sessions spent hours interrogating black voters in predominantly black counties, finding 14 allegedly tampered ballots out of approximately 1.7 million ballots cast. The three civil rights workers were acquitted after four hours of jury deliberation.<4>

On September 9, 2005, after Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast, Sessions called his former law professor, Harold Apolinsky, co-author of Sessions' legislation repealing the federal estate tax, which had lost momentum in Congress, and left a voicemail: " Jon Kyl and I were talking about the estate tax. If we knew anybody that owned a business that lost life in the storm, that would be something we could push back with."<12>
Sessions was one of only nine opponents of Senator John McCain's anti-torture amendment. Sessions supports former Vice President Dick Cheney's proposal to exempt the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) from any ban on the use of torture.<13>

Sessions has been opposed to parts of the Voting Rights Act, which he described as a "piece of intrusive legislation."<4> In 2006 he was in favor of letting it expire, and also said that Congress should consider if it was needed in some northern cities and states.<14> He later voted in favor of extending it.<15><16>

Sessions has advocated the extension of FISA legislation to legalize the Bush Administration's wiretapping techniques. He compared worries about government overreach to "two dramatic errors some years ago in a situation just like this, on emotion driven by our civil libertarian friends," specifically the lack of sharing of information between the FBI and the CIA as well as prohibitions on obtaining intelligence from "dangerous" sources. Sessions was indirectly criticized for this phrasing by Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), who replied " 'The civil libertarians among us'—and then he listed all the bad things he thinks the civil libertarians among us have done. I hope every one of us—every one of us in this Chamber—supports the civil liberties of the United States of America because if you don't, you don't believe in the Constitution."<17>

Sessions has been one of the most vocal critics of the reauthorization of PEPFAR in 2008. On July 14, when the bill went to debate, Sessions prepared an amendment that would allow the so-called "Helms Amendment" banning HIV-positive patients from entering the United States to be maintained, a ban that the bill would repeal. He is also opposed to the current price tag of $50 billion over 5 years.<18>
