Bush Library Raises $100 million in 100 days
and just where do you suppose the money came from?

It was stolen from our treasury, and meted out via tax cuts and war spending.

IMHO.

George W. Bush often has said that historians will vindicate his presidency. And since he left office, he's moving fast to give them the tools.

Longtime financial backers of the 43rd president have raised more than $100 million for a presidential library at Southern Methodist University in Dallas that will house his official papers, sources close to Bush told TIME. Much of the money was collected in the 100 days or so since Bush left the White House, a pace much faster than that of his recent predecessors. At least so far, none of it has come from overseas, the sources said. (See pictures of George W. Bush as president.)

The Bush fundraising effort, compared to that of his predecessor, is off to a brisk start. Bill Clinton's library planners had hoped to receive pledges of $100 million within a year of the end of his presidency, but a pardons scandal delayed that achievement for another year, said Skip Rutherford, who chaired the Clinton library committee.

Unburdened by campaign finance regulations, former presidents traditionally raise money for their libraries the old fashioned way: by meeting or telephoning a few dozen, very wealthy, benefactors and asking for large sums, often on the order of $5 million to $10 million each.

4. Won't disclose the names of the donors or amounts, so
being as how the * people have never lied or bent the truth we are just to take this as fact. Sure, I believe it. Really, no really! I do.

7. Hrmm.. funny, i vaguely remember the GOP screaming about the Clinton
donors from the tops of their lungs before Bill released the names of his donors... but, oddly now it's OK for them to not disclose donors, eh? Huh. :eyes:

5. Why does anyone contribute to Presidential Libraries, anyways?
I can't believe that many people gave money to BUSH out of the goodness of their hearts. It can't be for political favors, because the GOP is hardly in the business of handing out goodies any more.

Why do they do it?

6. No doubt everyone who has donated owes * big time.
He's done so much for them while he was in office. If you could see the list of donors, I'm sure these would be on the list:

Halliburton executives
ExxonMobil executives
AT&T executives
Saudi Royals

etc.

They all prospered so much under *. $100 million is nothing for them. :puke:

14. Are presidential libraries giant money laundering schemes?
they seem to rack in quite a bit in "donations". Much more than what they would need to run a library.

16. I don't really get the idea of Presidential libraries.
They're just giant, well-funded propaganda centers. Didn't the Nixon library deny Watergate until fairly recently (and they're still kinda iffy)?

The worst president in many a decade raised the most money in the least amount of time for his presidential library.

Go figure.........

27. Image is everything.
Whitewashing history (and remaking deservedly shredded reputatations) starts with a big shiny "library" compound designed to impress future generations that weren't around to witness the horrific disaster that was Bush/Cheney. In characteristic Republican fashion they'll spare no expense on the cosmetics. (And a lot of airheads will fall for it.) Maybe someday it will appropriately serve as an amusement park ride or a haunted house.
