1. There's No Way Holder Will Move Towards Prosecution
Edited on Tue Apr-28-09 06:47 PM by MannyGoldstein
Never will happen. For a number of reasons.

They'll keep saying "nobody's above the law" and trust that the netroots will forget about it in a couple of weeks. Which we will.

10. I Hope You're Right
But I suspect that after a week or two, we'll just mumble some disappointment at the lack of prosecutions.

11. We haven't so far.
Most of the netroots have known about this for years and we haven't forgotten it yet.

2. Excellent news! I suspect there are MANY Democrats that refuse to let this slide.
As it should be.

5. I know, it's better to believe it won't happen. That way you won't be dissapointed when it doesn't
Edited on Tue Apr-28-09 06:54 PM by HopeOverFear
(sad way to live, but I understand it.) Not to mention the fact that you're mindfucking yourself. If it doesn't happen, you're STILL going to be dissapointed.

8. I believe (and could be wrong)

but, the federal Statute on Special prosecutors expired in 1999.

http://www.history.com/encyclopedia.do?articleId=212619

Clinton and Attorney General Janet Reno had supported renewal of the independent counsel statute in 1994. In the aftermath of impeachment, however, the Clinton administration had little reason to favor reauthorization of the law beyond its scheduled expiration date. Legislators and commentators agreed that the statute was seriously flawed, but there was no consensus on how to fix it. Consequently, on June 30, 1999, the independent counsel statute lapsed, and the power to appoint special counsels reverted to the attorney general. The expiration of the law did not affect the status of the Whitewater probe and inquiries by four other active independent counsels, who were authorized to complete their investigations.

They can have AG Holder appoint a special council, like previous admins did with Patrick Fitzgerald since he was a special counsel, not a prosecutor. In order for this to happen I believe they will have to pass a Independent Council authorization bill in to law.

But I could really be wrong here.

13. I wasn't sure which was the better..
way to go. I've read arguments for both congressional hearings/committee's and special prosecutors. I hope they do both. And before a Special Prosecutor is appointed I hope some more stuff is declassified and some whistle blowers come out.

14. Nothing will get done if there is a Special Prosecutor. Just let the DOJ
quietly investigate this. It won't pick up until Dawn Johnson gets in there. Thats when it gets interesting

15. This is the way it has to be done.
Obama cannot do it without looking like it is a political prosecution.
The AG can't do it with so many of his underlings faithful to the previous administration.
We the people must do it.
And do it through the congress...make them demand a special prosecutor when there is evidence of wrongdoing.

I really do believe that is what Obama wants...I know I would if I were in his position.
