Not a right.

The First Amendment gives the press the right to report as they see fit, and be as biased as they want, but it does not give them right to unfettered access to political and government actors. You have the right to free speech; you do not have the right to access: press passes to the White House, seats on Air Force One, interviews, documents, information, etc. THAT is all a privilege that is given with the kind permission of politicians who choose to grant it.

Fox needs to be reminded of that. One first step would be for the president to ignore the Fox correspondents at Wednesday night's press conference. If Fox's behavior persists, confiscation of Fox's press credentials should be considered as an option.

1. Yeah, but that would only blow back on the admin....

.... now, personally, I think the President should call up home boy and ask him exactly how much an Uncle Tom gets paid at Faux News if at all (the fact that the reporter who did that was an African American is like salt on an open wound to me!)

But for the White House to deny credentials to Fox is only gonna solidify the wingnuts even more and, no doubt, rile up the press core as a whole. They have a lot of solidarity within their ranks and "freedom of the press" is MAJOR.

2. Forget it bluestateguy, I suggested this long ago before FUX news
became totally blatant in there unBIASED reporting. Boy did I get flamed, you would have thought I was talking about erasing our second amendment rights. Oh, silly me I forgot, GW Bush and Corporate America have already done that. Good luck with this thread, I am with you. Obama needs to start putting the screws to these asswipes.

3. Press Credentials... hmmm...
Perhaps they should be reserved for actual journalists?

Just thinking out loud here... if certain news agencies can't get their facts straight, perhaps they do need their creds pulled.

Facts are facts, after all, even though we've had to listen to opinion being paraded as facts for 8 long years. Free speech? You can say anything you like, but a journalists reports should be factual.

5. The r/w would make this into a bigger deal than it's worth.
They're front and center now and they lie. Can you just imagine if they were denied access, singled out?

I don't think it's worth it. I think ignoring them totally in pressers might be a better idea. They'd get the message, and still lie.

6. I agree--and I bet the White House does just that.
The way the administration has handled the wingers so far tells me they're not gonna act with indignation or get retribution. They'll convey the message that such tactics are beneath them.

8. I've been saying this for a long time, if I were Press Secretary FOX would be out

And when I say that I don't mean all conservative outlets, just FOX and the New York Post. The National Review and the Weekly Standard can have press credentials as far as I'm concerned because while they are right wing rags, they make no bones about it. FOX and the New York Post pretend to be "fair and balanced" and also have a nasty habit of getting their facts wrong. They are no better than the National Enquirer in my view.
