why are we all giving in to this entirely media manufactured bullshit...

I am all for constant monitoring of the presidents performance ( now that we have to overcompensate on all fronts after the last 8 years) , but 100 day milestone seems to have been pulled right out of the Media's ass.

1. Yeah, I had a similar thought
This minimizes the purpose of holding elections.

2. It's a total media concoction
designed soley to keep you tuning in. But they've never gone this far--I understand CNN and MSNBC are going to give April 30 "all-day coverage." Don't they do that anyway?

3. Benchmarks are nice
but agreed this is a manufactured distortion even though I believe he is doing a terrific job!

6. I like it
I am turning 65 in a few days and am hoping all the focusing on Obama's first 100 days will result in everyone forgetting my birthday.

7. It's a totally false benchmark and signifies exactly zero
It doesn't even have anything to compare it to or any rationalization as to why it's done. It's like measuring how a marriage is doing in it's first 100 days and deciding whether it passes or fails at what? Something? Anything? Nothing?

8. Nice Analogy. Why doesnt anyone point to the sheer absurdity of it all.
It must be the TV Ratings.

9. well, since the 100 day benchmark has been around since FDR
I guess it must have been the radio ratings back then.

Yes its an artificial benchmark. But its one that has been employed by the media and by presidents themselves to set goals and assess progress in the inital months of a presidency.

10. Me too.
The "First One Hundred Days" is as contrived, and meaningless as a Hallmark holiday.

11. Its a chance to celebrate everything related to base 10
Had we all been born with 6 digits on a hand we would have to wait 44 days to reach this important milestone. Or had we only had 4 we would have already reached it and been well on our way to 200 lol.
