2. duh yes, but also why it will be so important to get cooperation from
some of the actual CIA operatives, who can say "this is the information I was told my victim had" and "this is the pressure I got from above".

5. It all makes sense now, doesn't it?
That's why there were so many torture sessions.

This simply cannot be ignored.

6. They knew Saddam wasn't involved in 9/11, so the torture was to break people,
brain wash them and then use them as props to their lie. Unfortunately for them broken people don't make credible witnesses. Evil + Stupid + Power Mad + Greedy. What a combination to hold the keys to the arsenal. No wonder our side in DC was either scared to death or in deep, deep denial.

7. Shoots a gigantic hole in Cheney's excuse....
Edited on Wed Apr-22-09 03:27 PM by Spazito
I love how the torture memos are released, the chief asshole and all his minions (Cheney et al) go on all the networks trying to justify them and, wham, out comes the Senate report, shooting holes in all their pathetic excuses. Next to come is the Office of Professional Responsibility Report and, possibly, the video and photos withheld from Abu Graib.

A case is being made, a case to the public, exhibit by exhibit, each more damning in it's turn. When all is done, there will be NO way the repubs or the former bush officials can sell the "it's political" garbabe.

10. former U.S. Army psychiatrist, Maj. Charles Burney, in this article by Jonathan S. Landay

A former U.S. Army psychiatrist, Maj. Charles Burney, told Army investigators in 2006 that interrogators at the Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, detention facility were under "pressure" to produce evidence of ties between al Qaida and Iraq.

"While we were there a large part of the time we were focused on trying to establish a link between al Qaida and Iraq and we were not successful in establishing a link between al Qaida and Iraq," Burney told staff of the Army Inspector General. "The more frustrated people got in not being able to establish that link . . . there was more and more pressure to resort to measures that might produce more immediate results."

Excerpts from Burney's interview appeared in a full, declassified report on a two-year investigation into detainee abuse released on Tuesday by the Senate Armed Services Committee.
Remember Knight-Ridder's Strobel and Landay who countered the Cheney propaganda by Judith Miller that appeared in the NY Times? They wrote this. Credit to IndianaGreen for finding this yesterday evening.

9. Sorry, I don't get to watch Andrea Mitchell, but let me get this ..
straight. Now they are saying that they tortured people to make it look like, after being tortured, the victims would tie 9/11 to Saddam?

What am I missing here? Logic? Oh wait, this is about Cheney and torture, not about truth.

14. Even creepier ... the FBI was ready to provide proven, non-torture techniques,
but the Bushies and the CIA said "get lost." So, the FBI basically said, "OK, this looks like it's heading to a bad place. we want no part of this." And they turned out to be right. (Suskind talked about that on Rachel).
