Obama skates while Right fumes
A Democratic president thrills a French audience by telling it that America has been “arrogant.” He brushes aside 50 years of anti-communist orthodoxy by relaxing restrictions against Fidel Castro’s Cuba. He directs his attorney general to ease a crackdown on medical marijuana and even plays host to the Grateful Dead in the Oval Office.

Several times a month in his young presidency, Barack Obama has done things that cause conservatives to bray, using the phrase once invoked by Bob Dole, “Where’s the outrage?!”

The outrage is definitely there, in certain precincts of Republican politics. What’s notable, however, is that it mostly has stayed there — with little or no effect on Obama.

He has been blithely crossing ideological red lines and dancing on cultural third rails — the kinds of gestures that would have scorched an earlier generation of Democrats — with seeming impunity. Obama’s foes, and even some of his allies, are a bit mystified.

5. The media, just like his foes, JUST DON'T GET IT.
They are so intellectually lazy (or stupid) they keep expecting Obama to morph into Clinton and it's not going to happen. Also, something else that hasn't been talked about-Obama is the first President in my lifetime that hasn't (and cannot be) defined by Vietnam.

7. And, the rwinglosers aren't the only
ones who are "fuming". President Obama has some posters on here who are blowing their stacks.

The President is not being an imperialist asshole and they call it "weak". Thank goodness we got him in the White House so he can teach them about Diplomacy.

12. He did a little of that yesterday when he met with the Navy football team:
"'How we roll'

Obama's Hawaiian identity doesn't get much attention /except when he runs into Steve Case/ but here's a moment from the pool report on his presentation of the commander-in-chief's trophy to the Navy football team.

The president harked back to his Hawaiian roots at the ceremony honoring Navy's midshipmen for winning this year's trophy. The team's coach, Ken Niumatalolo, is from Hawaii, as is the starting quarterback , Kaipo Noa Keahaku Enhada.

The president gave the "shaka" hang loose sign in the middle of the ceremony, provoking a laugh as talked about how the coach seemed relaxed and easy going, calm under pressure. /Like someone else from Hawaii/.
"That's the Hawaiian spirit,'' Mr. Obama said. "That's how we roll.''

10. Interesting article, demonstrates that the republicans STILL don't get it

This comment is bullshit:

“He has the benefit of nobody paying attention to anything but the economy,” said Stuart Stevens, a longtime GOP strategist and author. “You have the economic equivalent of the country being at war. Nobody on Sept. 20, 2001, was particularly focused on cultural issues, either.”

The republicans (led by KKK Rove) started pushing their damned cultural issues immediatly, and they never let up. It was Rove's intention to recreate 'W' as the rightwing FDR (supplant reagan) and roll back the New Deal.

Still, while Obama’s moves left may have prompted little blowback, they and most everything else he does will be subsumed in a political vortex should the economy worsen.“If unemployment is at 12 percent in six months, they’ll be screaming for his head, and it won’t matter if he had totally shifted to the cultural right,” said Stevens.

This is the only hope the republicans have, and it ain't gonna save their asses. Every poll I've seen says that the American public expects it to get worse in the short term, and expects it to take a couple of years to get the economy on it's feet.

11. What I am hoping to see/hear is that people - esp pundits - start calling these asshole
republicans "UnAmerican" and traitors for hoping America Obama fails.

We were attacked non-stop when we spoke out against bush.
But - most of us didn't really start speaking out until bush was in office for about 1 year, once we woke up to realize that he was a war criminal - inspite of the fact that he stole the presidency.

The rw hacks have been attacking Obama since day one, and they deserve the same treatment we received.

Obama has done nothing in comparison to bush.

15. This is the Reason
for Obama holding moderate positions and engaging in conservative rhetoric ever since he ran for office. And it's why a lot of the outrage was misplaced.

Obama appears to know what he can get away with and how to defuse any fallout, at least among neutral or persuadable voters. It's an amazing thing to see.
