"Gov. Rick Perry: Texas Could Secede, Leave Union"...
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/04/15/gov-rick-perry-texas-coul_n_187490.html

Methinks this push, however feeble and fail it might be, is one reason why Obama is so attached to Lincoln as a guide.

"AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas Gov. Rick Perry fired up an anti-tax "tea party" Wednesday with his stance against the federal government and for states' rights as some in his U.S. flag-waving audience shouted, "Secede!"

An animated Perry told the crowd at Austin City Hall -- one of three tea parties he was attending across the state -- that officials in Washington have abandoned the country's founding principles of limited government. He said the federal government is strangling Americans with taxation, spending and debt.

Perry repeated his running theme that Texas' economy is in relatively good shape compared with other states and with the "federal budget mess." Many in the crowd held signs deriding President Barack Obama and the $786 billion federal economic stimulus package.

Perry called his supporters patriots. Later, answering news reporters' questions, Perry suggested Texans might at some point get so fed up they would want to secede from the union, though he said he sees no reason why Texas should do that."

2. And when Mexico collapses, Texas wants to deal with the border on their own?
Fine with me.

This sort of statement highlights the foolishness of these "protests". Taxes for just about every person in that crowd were reduced this year, so what exactly are they bitching about. It's all a bunch of phony outrage, fabricated by a political party desperate for a message.

5. Yippie-ki-yi-yay, m-f'ers!
Go. And I say this as someone with much family in Texas, but still ... go. Don't let the door hit you on your electoral votes on the way out the door. As goes Texas, so goes any chance the GOP has again at winning national office.

They're so erratic in their behavior and their message is unclear. What is it that they want?

14. Please God. Let them go. And they'll be taking Kay Bailey-Hutch, Asshole Cornyn and
the rest of the Texas Republican lunatics with them, giving the Dems a stronger majority in the Senate.

If you aren't a praying person, start now.

18. problem with that is that i can see a lot of other red states seeing solid dem majorities
would also then want to leave the union, setting up civil war 2. My state Virginia outside of NOVA would probuably want to leave and rejoin the confederacy and i sure as hell would defend the shenandoah if it was invaded by yankees :)

I would love nothing more than to get rid of the elected assholes from Texas, but there are some good people who live there (although they could move to stay in the U.S.!), but for any state to secede from the Union would result in a civil war, as you stated. It would be interesting to see how they planned to defend themselves against the U.S. military since they would have none of their own, except a bunch of right-winger loonies with uzis, but it doesn't really matter since they aren't going anywhere.

Rick Perry is an unAmerican traitor to his country. I don't know how else to describe a GOVERNOR who wants his state to secede from the United States of America.

15. President Obama CUT taxes for 95% of Americans from even the Bush years...
That's the simple answer. Watch them stand dumb founded and try to answer. They will quickly talk about their money going to so and so, but always point out that unless they made more than 250k last year their taxes went DOWN. DOWN compared to the Bush years. If they pipe up about rich people, just point out that only income above 250k was taxed at an addition 4%. Not the income below 200, just below.

19. these past teabaggers are not who would be taking up arms
it would be the good ole boys i hunt and work with, all of them ex army, former marines and cops. A lot of people in america see their identity as their state or region, my kids are virginians first and foremost and then citizens of the USA.

23. We should seriously consider whether Texas is more trouble than it is worth

Enough Texans have made it clear that they either do not consider themselves part of the United States of America or are so opposed to this country that I do hope there is a plan of some sort for dealing with the pronounced enemy presence in Texas.

If Texans hate the USA so much, then we should rid ourselves of them.

27. Hey, Rick! Door, Ass, Buh-Bye!
We get our assets, our airbases and planes, our military equipment, and, oh yes, the tax money we send you. You can keep DeLay, Shrub, the McClellans, Perry, and all your other Railroad Commission Mafia criminals to yourselves. The wall we planned to put on your southern border now goes from Louisiana to Arkansas to Oklahoma all the way around to New Mexico. YOU figure out what to do with old Mexico. That's all your problem now. We thank you for taking that on yourselves, you big, self-reliant sunsabitches, you. We keep loyal Americans; you can have the goobers back you've been trying to export. We've had enough of the Bush family and the idiots they drag out with them.

I've lived in Texas three times and as a place on earth I love it dearly. I love many of the people I left behind. Many Texans love their state dearly because it is a beautiful, special place on earth. But if it came down to it, I do think many, if not most, would still choose to be Americans first. Texas needs the Union economically to survive, but the Union does not need Texas reciprocally.

28. Let's see...
Ft. Hood, Ft. Bliss, Bergstrom AFB, Ft. Sam Houston, Corpus Christi NAS, Lackland AFB, Randolph AFB, Camp Bullis. Yep we should secede and get back that land and evict the people who live on them. Then we should give back the $8 billion from the stimulus and the money for Hurrican Ike. Right with you governor, er President Perry. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :sarcasm:

36. They better pack up any defense plants there, too
And impose a hefty tariff on any imports. Texas is NOT part of NAFTA, after all, and there's no reason to think that they would want membership, or that the other member nations should want the competition.
