or not.

According to Nia-Malika Henderon, MSNBC--just now speaking with Nora O"Donnell. They are all very excited.

The announcement just went out. First Pup Bo will make his first public appearance at 4:40p.m.

Reporters were informed to dress appropriately on this rainy day because they'll be standing outside for what is being labeled as a "brief press opportunity." -- Amie Parnes (4:07 p.m.)

MORE: Reporters will head to the South Lawn for the Bo unveiling. A press aide says it will be "similar to a Marine One set up." (4:10 p.m.)

JUST NOW: They've just called for final call for reporters, 13 minutes early. Total stampede of reporters. -- Amie Parnes (4:31 p.m.)

Crowd count for the dog: 70+ reporters. (4:34 p.m.)

1. They should have gotten a dog from the pound...now everyone will want
one, and like when 101 dalmations (live-action) came out, everyone wanted one of those, found out they weren't just cute, and in the next several years shelters took in thousands of abandoned dalmations. this sucks.

6. They probably would have if their child didn't have allergies.
Besides, what do you think happens to breeder dogs if their owners can't keep them and no one rescues them? My own dog is a "purebred" that I got from a friend who could no longer keep her. Should I have taken her to the pound instead, to satisfy your principles?

19. Malia has allergies...
No offense to your delicate principles, but her health is more important than what kind of dog they get. If it means getting a non-shelter dog, then so be it. If this dog is going to significantly decrease the chance of her having an allergic reaction to him, then that's a good thing.

21. Read my wghole post and see what kind of example this sets...
...sorry that your principles include not giving a s**t whether dogs are abandoned and killed. You sicken me.

22. What a nice strawman argument...
Edited on Wed Apr-15-09 09:28 AM by TTUBatfan2008
First of all, I OWN a dog from the pound. Would you like to remove the foot from your mouth or do you want to keep making huge assumptions about me?

And second of all, you think getting a dog that could kill Malia due to her allergies is the right thing to do? Wonderful idea! The Obamas made a donation to one of the shelters in D.C. I hope it was a large one because these organizations do need help in their efforts to help abandoned animals. My principles aren't any different than yours other than the fact that I value human life more than a dog's or cat's. Sorry if that upsets you. Malia's health comes first. She has bad allergies. Basically under your guidelines, you are saying it's better that they get a dog from a shelter that could potentially kill her. That is a fucking ridiculous notion. I love animals but if I were a parent I'd never get an animal that could kill my child due to allergies. Luckily for me I'm planning on avoiding kids and I have no allergies myself so my current dog will not be a problem.

10. I understand that Americans like these kinds
of reports but I find it sad that we can't just afford the first family some privacy to enjoy their moment. It would be nice if we would curb our insatiable need to know every little thing about them and let the Obama daughters have some semblance of a normal life.
