Just 387 Ballots Left in Minnesota

The pile of unopened absentee ballots that could be added to Minnesota U.S. Senate totals for Al Franken and Norm Coleman is now down to 387, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Last week, a panel of judges identified 400 ballots for possible counting -- but it's now been determined that "13 of the ballots on the judges' list had already been counted -- on Election Day or during a statewide recount."

Franken leads by 225 votes with these final ballots left to count.

1. Then the party of whiners will really start their whining.
If they can't win, they cheat. If they still can't win, the want to change the rules. If they still can't win after that, they want to drag it out in the courts as long as possible.
The GOP is the Dallas Cowboys of politics- poor winners and even worse losers.

4. For eight years they jettisoned self-respect
Now it looks as though they have learned to live without it.

2. Looks like it will end up going to the U.S. Supreme W. Court..
..where that corrupted body will appoint the sore loser Coleman to the senate seat. Hell, they will probably declare McCain president while they're at it.

6. It will be an easy one for the republicans, 6-3 , 5-4 worst case. No way they will
reject the case, they need republican seats.

11. That it will go to the highest court?
I was kidding about McCain, of course, but it seems that the latest repuke plan is to keep appealing this thing in order to keep Al from his senate seat.

Why do you think it is unlikely to happen?

12. From my limited experience,
I was just talking with my attorney on a case I'm involved in, and he mentioned that the court of appeal has guidelines, whereas the supreme court can make a decision whether to take a case or not.

I was asking why my case ever made it to appeal. His answer was that they had to take it.

13. So you are saying it's not likely to make it to the appeals court?
It seems to me that the U.S. Supremes would take it and run with it to make Coleman the winner.

I do hope you are correct. :smoke:

14. I go to Emptywheel
and to TPM for analysis on this particular case. All the right people are saying this thing dies when the State Supreme Court rejects it (assuming Pawlenty signs the Election Cert). The SCOTUS won't hear the case based on the legal argument put forth by the Coleman team (equal protection claim).

Coleman has 10 days to file his appeal once the ruling is handed down. Everyone expects the MSSC ruling will take less than a week, at which point it will be in the Governors hands. Reid can sit him without the Election Cert, but that'd get all the Rethug's Agitated.

that's the recap... expect it to be over before May.

Senator Al Franken.

Say it out loud. It feels good.

3. Goodness! I didn't realize there
were uncounted voted left in Minnesota! What were they waiting for?

Let's hope this is the beginning of the end and Minnesota will get their second Senator and that Senator will be Al Franken to represent them.

5. Can't the legal wheels spin a little faster on this?
Minnesota remains without equal representation - just declare Al the winner already!

9. Disgusting!
By time Franken takes office look at how much time has been wasted. Can they file criminal charges if it can be proven they are deliberately dragging and stalling this thing? Are the tax payers paying for all this? Why is Al not speaking out?

15. That percentage is pretty much the equivalent of my swinging at
the same number of curve balls thrown by Juan Marichal or Bob Gibson and driving them over the left field wall.

I wasn't all that bad at baseball as a youngun. But right now I doubt if I could even SEE a Juan Marichal or Bob Gibson fast ball, let alone hit it.

I think Norm's cooked.

17. You are forgetting about Barkley, who got about 17% of the vote.
Barkley will probably take a similar amount that he took in the general that would leave only 321 left to be counted. The chances of Coleman getting a 225 vote net gain out of only 321 ballots is pretty much zero.
