U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., has scheduled what could be her first visit to the Mohawk Valley since ascending to the Senate in January.

Gillibrand, who is from the Hudson Valley, will be the keynote speaker when the eighth annual Leading EDGE Awards are presented May 26.

Gillibrand replaced current Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton as the state’s junior senator. She served previously in the House of Representatives for the 20th Congressional District in Eastern New York.

“We are pleased to have Senator Gillibrand as our guest speaker at the Leading EDGE Awards,” EDGE board chairman Lawrence Gilroy said in a statement. “This will be a great opportunity to welcome the senator to the Mohawk Valley, and show her the spirit and potential of the Mohawk Valley as we celebrate the Leading EDGE companies.”

This year’s awards begin at noon Tuesday, May 26, at Hart’s Hill Inn in Whitesboro. Tickets are $30 each and available by contacting Mohawk Valley EDGE at 338-0393. Tables of eight are available for $250.

Also at the luncheon, the winner of the $30,000 Mohawk Valley Business Plan contest will be announced. Twelve business plans were submitted by the March 24 deadline and are being evaluated by a panel of judges.
