IPOD-gate
Heh...I'm watching Norah O'Donnell and Richard Wolffe, and Norah asked Richard what he thought of the ipod gift that Obama gave the Queen. He said that she is not an "ipod person" and that it's probably a bit too futuristic for her. And Norah quickly interrupted and asked "Could this be seen as a gaffe then? Like the BIG gaffe with the dvd player?", and Richard replied that the press is petty enough to make anything a gaffe.

But....MSNBC had a "royal reporter" on earlier who has followed the queen for years, and he thought the ipod gift was really a good idea. And, he said that she had another ipod that she uses. Hmmmm....

Heh, Richard wasn't trying to be a jerk, but I just thought the contradiction was funny. BTW, I read today that he is leaving Newsweek for a PR consulting firm, but he will still be on MSNBC. He made some crytic statement about the journalism business and everyone wanting to jump ship while they can.

5. have you heard stories about Obama and his ipod, those are sacred to him
this is not a gaffe.

I know of two people who had their ipod's "borrowed" by Obama on plane and bus trips. He thinks you can learn a lot from someone by what they listen to. He was known to carry his during the campaign as well.

6. Just imagine ...
Didn't I read the Queen gave a signed pic of her and Phillip? And that she gives those to everyone? Imagine Obama giving signed pics of himself and Michelle. Oh the horror!

10. yeah...it would be nice if some producer could hand Norah a note.
The questions that Carlos and Contessa were asking the royalty expert were kind of embarrassing, lol. Like the "Where are William and Harry in this, any role for them?"

11. Oh man.
Do the stupid pundits think that President Obama wondered, "What will I give the Queen of England? I know! I'll give her an iPod!" And so President Obama sent someone to Walmart to buy one and wrap it so he and the first lady could give it to the queen.

14. it's common knowledge
That the Queen has an ipod. I read about this years ago.

So not only not a gaffe, but a good present, because they did their research and figured out that it would be something she would actually like.

You wouldn't automatically assume that somebody that age would.

15. The iPod he gave her was most likely an iPod Touch 2G
It is only incidentally an MP3 player. It is piece of high tech jewelry that is also a very powerful computer with wireless Internet connectivity. I think mine is the coolest gizmo I own and, with all the applications coming out, it just keeps getting better.

16. The ipod contained a record on her visit to DC in 1997
In another thread, I also read that he gave her another gift, don't remember what it was. He did fine with his gift-giving.
