1. I love his mind, not his body. He's been fighting hard for our side for a long time.

3. I like them both, as well. I AGREE with Krugman about the bailout for the banksters.

8. When you say that, you mean that you agree that the "toxic" assets have no value
beyond that value that the invisible hand has declared they have? I mean, that's Krugman's biggest argument with Obama, yet nobody ever brings that up when they say "I agree with Krugman." They always follow it with something like "...about the giveaway to the big-money criminals," which isn't really what Krugman has been saying.

14. The taxpayers are taking all the risk on the "fraudulent" assets. We'll find out about their "value"
later. What do you think of this story from the NY POST?

CITI, BOFA BUYING BACK LAUNDERED LOANS AT LOWER RATES

As Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner orchestrated a plan to help the nation's largest banks purge themselves of toxic mortgage assets, Citigroup and Bank of America have been aggressively scooping up those same securities in the secondary market, sources told The Post.

Both Citi and BofA each have received $45 billion in federal rescue cash meant to help prop up the economy and jumpstart the housing market.

But the banks' purchase of so-called AAA-rated mortgage-backed securities, including some that use alt-A and option ARM as collateral, is raising eyebrows among even the most seasoned traders. Alt-A and option ARM loans have widely been seen as the next mortgage type to see increases in defaults.

One Wall Street trader told The Post that what's been most puzzling about the purchases is how aggressive both banks have been in their buying, sometimes paying higher prices than competing bidders are willing to pay.

Recently, securities rated AAA have changed hands for roughly 30 cents on the dollar, and most of the buyers have been hedge funds acting opportunistically on a bet that prices will rise over time. However, sources said Citi and BofA have trumped those bids.

The secondary market represents a key cog in the mortgage market, and serves as a platform where mortgage originators can offload mortgages in bulk that have been converted into bonds.

Yields on such securities can be as high as 22 percent, one trader noted.

BofA said its purchases of secondary-mortgage paper are part of its plans to breathe life back into the moribund securitization market.

"Our purchases in increase liquidity in the mortgage market allowing people to buy a home," said BofA spokesman Scott Silvestri.

A Citi spokesman declined to comment, though people familiar with the bank say it argues the same point.

6. Uh, no. I just saw a photo of him down to the waist. Sorry, he's got a pot
or at least a tire. Not too pretty. But keep wishing. Maybe he'll get on the treadmill and go like crazy and be slim for everyone to admire...

I don't think so, but it's possible...who knows?...

13. Well, I hope so, but what I was responding to is this apparent "fan club" for Krugman that has
developed here on DU. Kind of strange if you ask me. The guy ain't George Clooney. Everybody get a grip here. Krugman has no power to save you. I enjoy reading him as much as anyone. But this guy can't pull of even one fourth of what Obama can do. Get with it. Get with Obama. That's where the action is folks...geez...

He is much more brilliant and knowledgeable than anybody in Obama's economic team. :scared:
