6. I agree he has done a lot. But I would feel better if Guantanamo was closed,
domestic spying was halted, the feds actually stopped harassing medical marijuana users, we were out of Iraq and Afghanistan, we had real lobby reform, the banks were broken up, AND we were prosecuting the war criminals.

Again I say, he has done a lot. But he still has a lot to do.

14. LOL. Why bring God into this? And did I ever say that I didn't support Pres Obama
Did I ever say that I wasn't ok giving him more time? NO. But you see, I worked for a large corporation. The bosses were always telling us what they were going to do. Everyone cheers and the boss gives himself a raise. But most of the time, nothing changed, something comes up and it doesn't actually get done. It is one thing to say something, it is entirely another to actually do it.

I trust Pres Obama and I believe he will close Guantanamo, but I can't get excited by him just saying it. I will be ecstatic when it actually happens. Same thing with Iraq and Afghanistan.

It's kinda like "we are going to investigate____". Yeah, like the investigation with no results will satisfy us idiots. There was a lot of attention for the Plame investigation. What became of it? Nothing.

77. My response was not critical of the Pres one single bit. Don't use me as your punching bag.
He has done a lot and I am against those post that try to tear him down. But, I was pointing out that some of the accomplishments the OP gave credit to the Pres haven't been accomplished. I am willing to give Pres Obama time, but pointing out that closing Gitmo is still just a campaign promise as is withdrawal from Iraq. I appreciate that the Pres stated that his admin wasn't going to vigorously pursue medical marijuana users, however, just last week i heard that the feds raided another medical mj store. I am willing to give him time, just not ready to beat the drum yet.

7. He's doing great
I said last year the Obama was our only hope to change this country's direction and that is proving correct.

There is not another politician on the scene that comes close. This country is in some deep trouble and Obama knows it and is working to get us up and out.

Looking around one can see that there is really nothing left but hope, and Obama has said he was all about hope, repeatedly.

He IS our last chance. This is it, these four years will tell the tale of whether this country can survive another 20 years. If he doesn't pull the rabbit out of the hat, we are doomed.

Bitch and moan all yall want, but if he doesn't get our help, he can't do it. Simple as that. He is it, and there ain't no mo if he can't get us to save ourselves.

Cheerful, ain't I?

59. He also reversed the Global Gag rule in his first couple days, saving millions of women's lives
globally..

That is a huge huge deal, and he did it without any fanfare trying to kowtow to the Reich Wing American Taliban's (christofascist) misogynist ideology. Courageous and so needed.

I think his decisive actions recognizing the humanity of women has opened awareness that never would have happened otherwise, such as the Pope's declaration that violence against women is WRONG. (duh. finally)

Thank you for another needed vote for reality based thinking.

31. Your list need some serious critiquing. Try this:
Edited on Mon Mar-30-09 12:49 AM by Political Heretic
This isn't about proving your point right or wrong, its just about getting the facts correct.

-Began the closing of Guantanamo Bay
I'm with you on this, it was a good thing. However, the proof is in the pudding. So far nothing has really "begun," but the order is to close Gitmo by the end of the year, so I hope this happens.

-Put a final pull out deadline on Iraq
Actually, no. Leaving a bunch of residual troops indefinitely is not a pull-out.

-Reversed Stem-Cell research Bans
Yay!

-Officially Banned Torture by the US Military
Yay!

-Started the Process of re-opening Cuba
Um... no? Where did you hear this, because I read the exact opposite? I thought I read that the administration released a statement in which they said there would be no new policy re: cuba. Please help me clarify this.

-Has ordered higher emissions standards to be implemented
No. He has said that we should, but no policy has been established.

-Expanded national children's health care
Yay! Although that was coming through anyway.

-Made it easier for Women to sue for fair pay
Yay!! This was also coming through anyway.

-All of the stimulus acts and bills (signed for them, actively campaigned for them).
Yay!! This was a really big one. Very big win.

-Ended the Mexico City policy
Yay!!

-Implemented Lobby reform.
BZZT. He backtracked big time on this one, sorry. I was excited about it to, but he completely changed his tune.
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises/promise/240/tougher-rules-against-revolving-door-for-lobbyists/

-Reversed numerous other Bush-era policies, including banning offshore oil drilling in certain areas.
Numerous? No.

-Expanded FOIA (Freedom of Information Act), allowing more people access to government information.
Yay!!

-Lifted Bans on recording of the president
er.. Yay? I don't know this one.

-Met with several World Leaders in person, and talked to dozens of others in official capacities.
Um.. okay but that's pretty much any president's basic Job so...

-Signed a UN declaration that Homosexuality is not a crime.
Yay!!

And please, these "what have you done" accusatory remarks are so old. Actually, I've worked my butt off to make my world a better place in the last 69 days, thank you very much. :hi: If you haven't, that sounds like a personal problem to me.

34. Regarding Cuba
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/mar/08/cuba-obama-administration

Obama will use spring summit to bring Cuba in from the coldUS companies are queuing up as the president moves to ease restrictions on travel and trade, raising hopes of warmer relations and an end to the embargo. President Barack Obama is poised to offer an olive branch to Cuba in an effort to repair the US's tattered reputation in Latin America.

The White House has moved to ease some travel and trade restrictions as a cautious first step towards better ties with Havana, raising hopes of an eventual lifting of the four-decade-old economic embargo. Several Bush-era controls are expected to be relaxed in the run-up to next month's Summit of the Americas in Trinidad and Tobago to gild the president's regional debut and signal a new era of "Yankee" cooperation...

Obama Signs Public Lands Reform Bill

Conservationists claimed one of their most significant victories of the new administration Monday as President Barack Obama signed sweeping land reform legislation designating two million additional acres of public wilderness areas.

The federal wilderness designation provides the highest level of government protection from logging and other forms of commercial use and development.

Torture was already a criminal offense by statute law. The president has no discretion in allowing any Federal personnel to commit a crime.

58. K&R: He's not just better than Bush (low standard), he's pretty damn good.

However, my concerns:

1) The constitutional and secrecy court cases he's supporting (might be a way to knock them down once and for all).

2) His economic policy of giving away tons of money, to Finance, Insurance and Real Estate (FIRE). This is what conservatives would do.

On the second, I think he's going to realize the mistake, and change course by October.

66. Some of the things in your list don't sound so great
...when you read the fine print.

Obama says he wants to pull troops out of Iraq within 18 months, but not all of them.
50,000 US troops or almost HALF will stay behind indefinitely to provide 'security.' That is, he wants to keep permanent US bases in Iraq. In other words, he has no plans to leave Iraq.

That's not really much change at all from the Bush policy.

69. Night and day. And it's all in the fine print.
It's a tangled thicket, and he has to move carefully. I would suggest to you that a base forced on a quietly-despised population as a guarantor of continued corporate earnings and resource hegemony is night, and a base from which aid and reparation can be delivered to a population with the clear understanding that the US no longer considers Iraq an 'investment' which must be 'protected' is day.

"That's not really much change at all from the Bush policy."

That statement ignores every possible truth except troop numbers. I think we have to make it right before we leave, and I think that's Obama's general policy, and has been since the beginning of the campaign.

Sheesh.

72. 'He has to move carefully'
that sounds like the same excuse being made for Bush wanting to stay in Iraq indefinitely.

There's a difference between 'moving carefully' and stationing a large occupation force of 50,000 troops in the country, indefinitely. He lied when he said he was going to pull the troops out.
