This is why I get so depressed sometimes
The discourse and values of this country has reached the lowest common denominator. Growing up in the 50's and 60's, the demagogues were always out there, but I don't remember them getting millions of dollars a year being paid for slander like this. Vitriol and spew has been mainstreamed and it's considered perfectly normal.

It bothers me that I've been busting my ass in the working world for forty fucking years, and then to have to watch sons of bitches like Beck, Bruce, Coulter, Malkin and Limbaugh makes stacks of cash poisoning the airwaves.

I think it's a miracle that just enough intelligent people like us got Obama elected, but that doesn't change the fact that there's something terribly wrong out there.

1. Or, rather, we're not reminded of the difference between media and real life.
That's the core problem.

Then add in the right wing blubbermouths making millions for effectively doing NOTHING except bleat, whine, and complain...

It's up to us to remind people what's right and what isn't. Even if it means being told "none of your business".

If we're a society, it's everybody's business at some point.

Those who say we're not can take their hands out of public funds too... only fair and right.

3. That's what gets me, Deja
We put in an honest day's work, whatever we do, and we watch as no-talent people are paid with money and celebrity to do absolutely nothing and to contribute nothing of any value.

Hard to deal with sometimes...

2. The Tammy Bruce statement has me really upset. I cannot believe
the "trash" statement will not be apologized for or any kind of backlash will happen because of this witch. I'm with you, it's very depressing.

4. I'm very upset that class acts like the Obamas are called trash
I never thought of George Bush or his family as trash. I just hated his politics and the politics of the entire Republican party. I actually kind of liked Laura, I just couldn't understand how she could be married to him.

5. Don't let it get you down
She is either and act or has some serious issues.

She has been around LA for a long time, usually a Saturday morning show and she was just a screaming mess. (Dare I say Trailer Trash)
I believe she claims the Iraq War was what got her to switch, I don't believe it, she is just looking for fame and saw an opening by being a Gay, Pro-choice Repuke. Where else could someone with limited intelligence and talent make a living if not being a right wing blowhard.

6. Actually that statement didn't hurt the Obama's
Edited on Mon Mar-23-09 06:08 PM by lunatica
It did hurt the idiot who uttered them though. It's symptomatic of the rage of the Right Wing talking heads who in their rages are showing themselves to be what they truly are. The real trash in this country are the racists. These are words Tammy Bruce will regret because they will be branded on her forehead and will define her for years.

Think about it,

Who said 'nappy haired hos' about a girls' basketball team. You're right. Don Imus.
Who said 'macaca'. You got it. Senator George Allen
Now it'll be who said 'black trash in the White House.
I can't help laughing at her saying she meant it so she's not apologizing.

Those words will be with them forever. They seal their own fate...

In the not too distant future you can google 'trash in the White House and get her name at the top. Someone will enter the incident into Wikipedia, making it immortal.

10. My hope is that the Obamas don't hear about it. I know they're adults
and can take the slings but this is just downright hurtful and the Obamas don't deserve this. It saddens me greatly. They've given up their lives for this job, at least temporarily, and they deserve so much better. Never a kind word from the right, just snark whether it be her clothes, the new garden, their weekends at Camp David, his "brackets." I hate it, sorry didn't mean to rant on about this but I guess it was the straw that broke this ole broads back...LOL.

11. Was that on Fox, or the radio?
I don't watch, listen to either. Sometimes I wonder if the 'outrage' is what they're shooting for.

7. "...but that doesn't change the fact that there's something terribly wrong out there."
46% of the voting population thought McCain/Palin was the way to go. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I don't recall things being so nasty & mean spirited in the past, either. It seems like everyone is positioning - positioning for a better spot at the traffic light, a better job at the company, better ratings than the other guy. Every thing's a competition & the only goal is to win - who cares about things like integrity, honor & truth. It is acceptable to build yourself up by tearing the other guy down. It is acceptable to support your views with half-truths & out right lies. It's acceptable to treat people as objects. As long as you win, any behavior is acceptable. And I won't even go into our perverted sense of what 'winning' is. :eyes:   :eyes:

14. You know why 46% voted for McCain/Palin?
because of these same freaking idiots that have taken our air waves to demonize, hate and lie against the populace own best interests.

12. I understand your anger and outrage.. iam just fuming
at all these idiots. The only way of hittig them back is by contacting their sponsors, especially that Tammie Bruce woman.. let's all contact her sponsors and demand that they either pull back their commercials until she apologizes for her disrepectful remarks towards our President.

Our voice is the only power we have. If we dont' get organize these ppl will get away with these things forever.

I think a lot of people are feeling like that and you stated it so well..I know am.

I do maintain that it's a miracle that Obama got elected in spite of the corporatemedia doing their utmost to keep it from happening and now they're on 'roids to bring him down.

Freakin' tabloid yellow journalism that took over the US media.

15. I agree there seems to be a pool of money out there for all things GOP.
And then they hook the middle class and the poor with their lies and narratives. And then there is more money for the likes of Limbaugh. Makes me sick. But I think it starts with a few rich people who didn't want to pay taxes. They joined up with neocons who didn't want America to be anything but the biggest baddest nation on earth. And there you go.

16. I overheard some hillbilly idiot today at Target today....
.... first of all, I didn't think Republicans were ALLOWED at Target! I thought they all had to go to Wal*Mart! Do they not know that Target is owned by "the Jews" and Wal*Mart is owned by "real America"?

Anyway .... she was telling some guy who really seemed like he wished she'd hush about how "this country is going down the toilet!" and how "they keep giving them more and more money!" She said while SHE didn't have any money invested (what idiot doesn't have a 401k?) she knew lots of folks who'd "lost everything" (well, yeah, duh!)

She THEN told her friend about "there are even people who are taking their money out and burying it in their back yard!"

I didn't have the heart to tell her she was describing the wrong century. I just grabbed my Cadbury Eggs and got the heck out of there before more Republicans showed up.

17. You hit the nail on the head about what's bothering me too.
These asses flunked out of school yet make millions of dollars saying ugly things about people.

The reason they are hollering so loud right now is that society is slowly moving toward a meritocracy and their days are numbered. In a while yet, you won't be able to rely so much upon privilege and entitlement; no more white boys flunking out of school and making millions touting bullshit. Everyone, including them, will have to earn their way.
