10. There are simply too many of them for just the Presidency.
Some will have to be in the Cabinet, others in the Senate and House.
Aren't we lucky to have so many 'smarter than Obama' people on DU? :)

11. Jimmy Carter faced a primary challenger in 1980
Partially due to the state of the economy- so it's not out of the realm of possibilites.

12. So, you're nominating Jimmy Carter?
Ok.

Let's see:

Carter
Kucinich
Jack Bauer
Paul Krugman
Barack Obama

This is setting up to be a fine primary!

Anyone else?

22. Last I saw, the first caucus was still in January
I probably should have mentioned that Johnson had a challenger, too.

A bit different circumstances- that was primarily about the war.

41. We had candidates before then, silly!
You can't just go throw your name into the ring on caucus day!

We should really get our candidates ready by 2010, since that will leave 2 years to really go after Pres. Obama.

23. obviously lots of things "can" happen.
But the question is how likely are they to happen. Between the economy and the Iranian hostage situation, Carter had approval ratings below 35 percent when Teddy and Jerry Brown decided to challenge him.

Consider that Jimmy Carter was elected with 50.1 percent of the votes and 40.8 million votes total while Obama was elected with nearly 53 percent of the vote and almost 70 million votes total.

Not saying that things can't change so dramatically as to make a primary challenge possible or even likely. Just that, without knowing what those things are, its difficult to say who would be most likely to mount such a challenge.

There are always a hundred threads complaining about the critics then the critics ever post.

I learn about most of the "controversies" from the posts by people saying that it isn't a controversy and we shouldn't be talking about it.

Even if he faced a primary challenger, he has the best political organization in the world. He would easily crush even the most serious primary opponents.
