Never apologize when you say something stupid in politics
Edited on Sun Mar-22-09 12:41 PM by bluestateguy
Why? Because your opponents/critics will just beat up on you anyway. And then you just look like a weakened, defeated wimp for apologizing. Apologies are a sign of weakness and appeasement, and you cannot show that in the face of your enemy, even if you really are wrong. Americans like politicians who say what they mean and mean what they say without equivocation.

2. imagine if Obama didn't apologize for the Special Olympics comment
people wouldn't think he's weak, they'd think he's insane.

3. That's what Bush says....
That's what I disrespected most about him. A refusal to accept criticism is narcissitic at best-- fascist at worst.

5. Yeah, everyone would have hated Bush if he had ever shown humility or apologized.
Fortunately, his can-do, stay-the-course attitude led to him leaving office widely admired and respected.

7. Bullshit
The ability to apologize and move on shows strength. It's weak people who can't afford to apologize. It's weak people who worry that doing the right thing will make them look like wimps. It's weak, sad, insecure people who cannot admit they were wrong.

8. Amen! Just because right wingers call people weak doesn't
make it so! RWers will always call names and use the most exaggerated word possible.

9. And they'll call you names whether you do the right thing or not
so you may as well go ahead, do the right thing, and wake up in the morning with your self respect intact.

10. If you slip up and say something stupid and insensitive
that hurts a group of people and you don't apologize and make amends it is a terrible reflection on your character. Obama apologized and he did it immediately. The guy has class even when he goofs.
