On gifts, movies, and the value of a journalist's 'opinion.'

First ... anyone who engages in the analysis of 'Gift Equity' can sure as Hell stay away from me during any occasion upon which I proffer gifts. There is NOTHING quite as detestable in giving a gift as assessing the exactitude of the reciprocation, imho. If such cost accounting is part and parcel of YOUR gift-giving, I pity you. (Sometimes the pity rises above the feeling of disgust.)

Next ... unless you're the one giving or receiving the gift, your opinion is irrelevant. The sole exception to this is in raising the question of bribery or corruption. This doesn't even come close to warranting such consideration.

Lastly, I challenge the mental credentials of ANY 'journalist' who'd write the following:
And he will hope that at a General Election the British public do not shun his imploration for another term in office by thinking at the ballot box of the famous line from another of the movies, Casblanca(sic): 'Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn.'

Mr. Drury, you FAIL!! You're an unmitigated ass and unabashed imbecile.

Anyone who'd confuse 'Casablanca' with 'Gone With The Wind' or Rick with Rhett is just too fucking stupid to breathe.

5. Brown got Bush and Sarkozy the same pen set...nobody claimed anyting about thoughtfulness then.
Brown didn't keep Bush's "thoughtful" gift of a hideous bomber jacket (he would have had to buy it). Nobody considered that a snub either.

6. Brown gave pen holders crafted from the HMS Gannet
to Bush and Sarkozy? Haven't heard that before, do you have a link?

7. I phrased badly. I mean when Brown visited Bush last year,
He gave him a Winston Churchill Pen set. He gave the same thing to Sarkozy. In other words, it was just a standard gift.

Further, in an effort to keep pols honest, Britain does not allow their pols to keep gifts. They are given the option to buy them, but Brown has thus far declined to do so. So Bush's ugly jacket ended up given away to charity.

8. Thanks for the info. As to the jacket, I'm not a big fan of Brown
but that fact he didn't choose to buy it--does go to show the man has some taste!
