has anybody heard a repub offer an honest answer to the question of
"what do you do with the about-to-be-discarded as medical waste embryos?"

400,000 to 500,000 that aren't going to be snowflake babies?

shouldn't we press charges against parents and clinics that destroy human life?

or are the repubs, once again, being total hypocrites again?

damn, even nancy reagan supports obama on this.

i'd like to see one repub give an honest, straight-forward answer to this question.

1. They never will
This isn't about curing illnesses or advancing medical technology. It's about winning an ideological fight and pandering to the American Taliban (Fundy whackos).

2. Guess you are watching Hardball.
This guy is just a moron.
We don't need to be making babies out of all the unused embryos. Just what we need, to speed up the over-population problem. Let's flood the planted with rogue babies. Now that sounds moral.

I love when he broke out a book and said, "I've got planty of quotes." From then on both people ignored him. *laughs*

7. But it's the only argument that stands a chance with the right ...
Edited on Mon Mar-09-09 06:22 PM by Clio the Leo
..... NO WAY will you change any conservative's mind by saying that it is more valuable to destroy a "baby" (and that's how they see it) to help someone else who needs it.

But to say that this order will allow more "babies" to be eligible for adoption who would otherwise be "thrown away" ... THAT will perks some of these folks ears up.

I know how they think.

4. Mebbe they want to blow them up in a nook-yuh-ler bomb over the ME to bring about the rapture?
Seems to me that this is the only scenario that would satisfy all of the fundy fucktards.

8. Seems to me that many opposing Stem Cell research are just lying themselves about that
Seems to me that many conservatives who oppose stem cell research are just lying themselves about the stem cell reserach issue, or just completely uninformed. Most seem to just assume that all embryos used for stem cell research could have been babies, and ignore medical waste embryos, or fear irrationally that giving in on that issue would make them lose ground to opposing stem cell research in other areas to (when in reality it does just the opposite, by making it easier for us to justify lifting all restrictions on stem cell research by pointing out how ridiculous some of them are).

There are also a few people who will argue against stem cell research by saying the government shouldn't be 'wasting' money on it, or that any kind of stem research with any stem cells is wrong even if the embryos would die anyway (at times partially justifying it by claiming it wouldn't work anyway, even though many inventions were once thought to be impossible at some point).

9. I asked David Shuster and he replied:
I wrote: "Can you ask anyone who's against ESCR for "moral reasons" if they're against IVF clinics, too? ESCR will be done on extra embryos from IVF."

He replied: "Jen, good question... sorry we couldn't get it on the air. Thanks for watching/writing. D"

He was asking each of the panelists questions, one being a conservative radio host Chris Plante, but after he filabustered on a Rush Limbaugh question, they ran out of time. Maybe he would've asked that question.

But Chris Matthews DID ask his RW crazy guest and he didn't have a good answer, first claiming it's "outdated technology," then claiming they'd have to use MILLIONS of embryonic cells meaning they'd have to harvest them, and other BS.

10. It's easier to listen to a talking point and repeat it
than it is to use their brains and think through something. The more advanced repug thinkers (IQ from 80 to 100) report that allowing this will lead to embryos being created for the sole purpose of scientific research.
