RW nut Tony Perkins (Family Research Council) put out a statement re: ESCR
Edited on Mon Mar-09-09 11:53 AM by jenmito
"I believe it is unethical to use human life, even young embryonic life, to advance science. While such research is unfortunately legal, taxpayers should not have to foot the bill for experiments that require the destruction of human life."

Typical response. I hope he's against in-vitro fertilization, too, since, of course, that's where these "human lives" are coming from. The "embryos" that will be used for research are onese that were going to be discarded from IVF clinics. Funny how no RWers are against THAT "destruction of human life." :eyes:

Isn't it sad that every RW group that has the word "family" in its title is AGAINST allowing families to exist (like gay marriage) or improve (health-wise with things like ESCR)?

1. Tony Perkins is the worst
Here's Nancy Reagan's statement on it:

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0309/19787.html

"I’m very grateful that President Obama has lifted the restrictions on federal funding for embryonic stem cell research,” she wrote in a statement released shortly after Obama reversed the Bush administration limits. “These new rules will now make it possible for scientists to move forward. I urge researchers to make use of the opportunities that are available to them, and to do all they can to fulfill the promise that stem cell research offers."

5. oh, I know
But, nice thing to pull out when the Republicans, ala Cantor, start complaining about this "distraction".

7. Did you see what Cantor said about this yesterday? He said,
paraphrased, "ESCR can be used to start cloning or embryonic farming and that's just WRONG." (And a strawman.) :eyes:

10. Nancy Reagan has been
in favor of lifting the ban since the moran in chief initiated it.

3. He's such a hypocrite!
He damn well knows that thousands of these stem cells are simply thrown in the trash from in-vitro fertilization treatments, but he (nor any others on the right) object to that.

4. Exactly...
and ANY time anyone points out that these cells will be thrown out anyway, there only response is that they don't think ANY "life" should be destroyed. But of course, that doesn't address the fact that they ARE coming from IVF clinics that will throw them out anyway.

6. He's right, though. Human life should only be sacrificed in pursuit of oil.
Oh, and world hegemony, of course.

9. It is quite obviously
more ethical to destroy the "human life" than to use the cells to better someone else's life! These people are disgusting! :grr:

11. How true. These religious zealots opposed to ESCR are rarely asked if they are also against IVF
since IVF destroys human embryos after 5 years of storage (or 10 years in special circumstances).

If these religious zealots aren't hypocritical, they would say they are against both. However, they never do.

13. Every time one of these people are on C-Span I try to get through
to ask them about their take on IVF clinics throwing out these "embryos" and if they're not against IVF clinics, why they're against ESCR which uses THOSE "embryos." They're hypocritical and stupid.
