Fox props up Limbaugh's "Obama fail" fatwa with 2006 poll: 51% of Dems didn't want Bush to succeed
Flashback: 2006 Poll Showed Most Democrats Wanted Bush to Fail
An August 2006 poll conducted by FOX News/Opinion Dynamics showed 51 percent of Democrats did not want Bush to succeed.

FOXNews.com

Monday, March 09, 2009

Rush Limbaugh took a lot of heat for saying he wants President Obama to fail -- but a lot of Democrats felt the same way about former President George W. Bush during his second term.

An August 2006 poll conducted by FOX News/Opinion Dynamics showed 51 percent of Democrats did not want Bush to succeed. Thirty-four percent of independents also did not want Bush to succeed.

By comparison, 90 percent of Republicans said at the time that they wanted Bush to succeed, and 40 percent of Democrats said the same.

Conservative radio talk show host Limbaugh says he doesn't want the economy to fail -- just Obama's policies. But his comments last month at the Conservative Political Action Conference drew sharp criticism from the White House.

breaking the government and wiping his ass with Constitution, no. Unfortunately, he was a rousing success in all three categories.

5. Typical fox
It doesnt say what exactly the poll asked, if it was asked in reference to any specific policy etc.

It could have said "Do you want Bush to succeed in running our country into the poor house?"

The poll they are using was done 2 YEARS INTO HIS SECOND TERM. Limbaugh is spewing his bs WEEKS into Pres. Obama's FIRST TERM.

12. I don't even care that Rush thinks this.
Am I the only one?

I would have been counted in that 51% for sure. I can't think of a single Bush administration policy that I wanted to see succeed...because they all sucked ass and were harmful to the country and/or the world. Now, while we certainly feel that Obama's policies are a major step up, it's ok if others don't agree and don't want Obama's policies and, by extension, Obama to succeed. I'd be a total hypocrite if I harped on these people. I hate Republicans, they hate Democrats. Fair enough for me. :)

Besides, Rush will not come out the winner going up against Obama. ;)

13. That's also 6 years into Bush's presidency.
Which means we wanted him to fail because we already knew the trend of his results and the direction of his policies.

Contrast that to Obama, whom is not even 50 days into his presidency.

It astounds me that these idiots do not understand shades of grey at all.

whats being asked of them...
by this point those people are already know and have already decided hes been a failure....

but theres a difference between expecting and WANTING someone to fail... i think at the time he was already a failure and people just saw the word bush and fail and linked 'em together

16. I want to see the poll, not just this answer
By 2006, everyone in the Democratic Party KNEW Bush had failed. The 40 percent who answered the way Faux wanted them to were probably, "yes, we'd like to see him turn it around." The 51 percent were stating the obvious: he's failed, we know he's failed and we don't think he can get it back...which he never did, and in fact made things worse over the last two years of his administration.

The interesting part here is the flipside of the Republican numbers: 10 percent of Republicans who answered the FNC poll either wished he would fail or had no opinion.

20. The difference is that their hope is that the country fail rather than
they be proven wrong.

The Democrats in 2006 knew Bush's "success" meant bad things for the country. He was going down the wrong path.

as we have seen come to pass in the last 6 months - whereas Obama's success means the nation's success because he is putting the country and the people instead of a bunch of Wall Street buddies and right wing wackos first.

So I'm actually disappointed that the number would be so low.

27. Don't worry - I just slam dunked Smooth SHILL's ass...
Edited on Mon Mar-09-09 11:40 PM by ddeclue
SmoothShill is just out here spinning and shilling for the Republican Party folks... nothing to see here...

The important difference between what the Democrats did under Bush and what Rush Limbaugh wants is that Bush's success = America's Failure whereas Obama's success= America's success .

Bush was only interested in helping out his fat cat friends and a bunch of right wing nut jobs - not America or ordinary Americans. His legacy is one of failure - a failure earned and deserved.

We Democrats were acting in our country's interest to stand up to:

1) Illegal wiretaps - something for which Nixon was going to be impeached had he not resigned first.

2) Torture - My God.. torture?? Really?? HOW is THAT American? That's what Nazi's do - That's what the KGB did - torture is the game plan for Darth Vader, not America. We aren't that weak, we aren't that desperate and I for one will NOT be stampeded by fear into throwing out the Constitution - I believe in what Patrick Henry said: Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death!

3) Lying to Start an illegal undeclared unconstitutional War in Iraq that has killed thousands of Americans and tens of thousands of Iraqis while bankrupting this country. Where or where are the WMD's? George W. Bush even made a sick joke of it one year during his press dinner... some joke, how many people had to die for it?

4) Crossing out all the "inconvenient" portions of the Constitution - you know like Article I, Article III and the Bill of Rights.

5) The unconstitutional PATRIOT Act - so much for the Bill of Rights.

6) Unconstitutional Presidential Signing Statements - so much for Article I of the Constitution which gave CONGRESS the power to write the laws..

7) All sorts of Big Brother programs to spy on Americans through DARPA.

8) No Fly lists that really amounted to enemies lists - REALLY Ted Kennedy should have been on the "no fly list?"

9) No Bid Contracts to your buddies in the defense industry.

10) A President who thought himself generally the King who was above the law, ANY law.

11) A President who censored science and facts to suit his ideology.

12) A President who didn't believe in any meaningful government regulation and gave us first Enron and Global Crossing in his first administration and then the global economic crisis we face today.

13) A President who didn't bother to take the August Presidential Daily Briefing warning of an Al Qaeda strike in the U.S. seriously until AFTER 9/11.

14) A President who didn't take the results of the Hurricane PAM FEMA drill seriously until it was FAR too late after Hurricane Katrina over a year later.

15) A President who used the line "you're doin' a heckuva job Brownie".

16) A President who told us that Iraq was a "mission accomplished" in 2003 when people are still dying there to this day.

Yes I'm PROUD to have opposed President Bush and worked for the defeat of the Republicans and taking MY COUNTRY back from the lunatics who have driven it into the ground the last 8 years. Rush Limbaugh is just one more of those lunatics. Our opposition is about protecting this country from such lunatics.

YOUR (and Rush's opposition) to Obama is about returning control of this country to those very same lunatics who crashed and burned the country in the last 8 years.

See you later smooth SHILL

28. Great Post...but
I agree with you but you, but like most of us, are seething at Bush and posts like that only back up smoothchill's argument. That post contained direct quotes. You're basing yours on what we feel Bush has done. The point is, Bush would be under prosecution and he's not being prosecuted and that leaves your reply mere emotional perceived conjecture. Can't dispute the quotes- they did say those things you know.

34. Proud to be a Dem
Let's assert something here. I love my party and love being a dem but modern dems are screwing up left and right. It's no longer the party it once was and it's people like you who give old, loyal hardworking, responsible Dems like us a bad name. The guys right. I read his crap and he's describing people like you not those of us who have been party affiated since JFK. I'm not talking his/her side but I truly wish neodems would go to school, take responsibility, quit giving people like smoothchill a reason to write crap is just crap. But in a sense he's right and no where in his crap does he attack old-world dems- just little shits like you who give the dem party a bad name.

35. About JFK...
Anf JF was something else. Too bad you weren't alive to see it. But lemme tell you, Obama is no JFK. There are no words to descibe JFK. We have JFK. Repubics have Reagan. Both are probably the greatest two Presidents I've seen in my lifetime. I never agreed with Reagan's policies but damn if they didn't turn the economy around and I was proven wrong. That's what experience does. You're still wt behind your ears.
