Poll question: Hypothetical: It is 2010. The depression continues, Afghanistan is a quagmire
Health care reform was written by insurance companies, no one from the financial sector nor from the Bush White House has been held to account.

A liberal (true liberal) challenges Obama for the nomination. Do you...

8. Hmmmmm......
That's a tough one but I would have to stick with supporting Obama. I mean Obama's first term is not over until 2012 so what would be the point of supporting another liberal in 2010? And for what party would this liberal challenger run for? The Republicans and the Democrats have a political duopoly, so this liberal challenger couldn't run for the democrats because Obama's got that for reelection. So what would this liberal challenger run as? A republican? I would die before I ever vote for a republikkkan and if he ran as a third party candidate I doubt he would even come close to being elected (again Dems and Reps have a duopoly). So my only choice would be to continue supporting Obama and hope things make a turn around.

9. I've left the country...
Why? Looking at your statements I thought Obama was the "real" change I was looking for. But if we're in the same drama and probably worse years down the line, then I'd rather get out because I don't know if the "true" liberal is really true or if he'll even stick to his ideals until the end.

I wanted Kucinich for president, but I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have taken us as far as Obama already has.

That there's anything such as a "true liberal" who would meet the purity test applied by DU types.

13. I'm giving Barack at least 4 years to try what seems impossible
People forget that in 1969, the Vietnam War was even denounced by right winger talk show hosts like Paul Harvey. It still took until 1973 for legislation to pass and for a monumental effort to get out of there. That's four years for something everyone (mostly) hated.

Turning the ship around will take at least 4 years... probably 8. The Right Wing is going to everything they can to make Obama's efforts falter leading up to 2010. It is critical that we get as much done before the November elections in 2010.

So many people have no clue how the legislative process works and how many checks and balances are in place. It takes time.

19. Are you serious?
This is truly pathetic, six weeks into the administration, you haven't gotten what you want so it must automatically be time to dump President Obama for a "true Progressive." There are hypotheticals and hypotheticals, yours is premature, but let me add my own to your mix: It's 2012, the purity brigades in the Democratic party, back an alternate candidate during the primaries, and split in the GE giving us President Sarah Palin. Sound good to you?

21. I get so sick of this "true liberal" BS. Little doubt, in your world, President Kucinich would be
sworn in and it wouldn't be two weeks before you were hand-wringing and bitching about him too.

It must be nice to live in such purity. Maybe you can give the rest of lessons on how to be perfect in a very complicated/complex world.

President Obama is doing just fine with the mess he inherited...I'm sure a better job than any of the "true liberals" who could list.

Psst! Don't you let anyone sway you. He was the good kind of banker and board member. And if anyone tells you he's a corporate tool, just send them to me, I'll take care of it.

Now make me laugh.

After serving as an advisor to Bill Clinton, in 1998 Emanuel resigned from his position in the Clinton administration. He then became an investment banker at Wasserstein Perella (now Dresdner Kleinwort), where he worked until 2002.<27> In 1999, he became a managing director at the firm’s Chicago office. Emanuel made $16.2 million in his two-and-a-half-year stint as a banker, according to Congressional disclosures.<27><28> At Wasserstein Perella, he worked on eight deals, including the acquisition by Commonwealth Edison of Peco Energy and the purchase by GTCR Golder Rauner of the SecurityLink home security unit from SBC Communications.<27>

Emanuel was named to the Board of Directors for the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation ("Freddie Mac") by then President Bill Clinton in 2000. His position paid him $31,060 in 2000 and $231,655 in 2001.<29> During the time Emanuel spent on the board, Freddie Mac was plagued with scandals involving campaign contributions and accounting irregularities.<30> The Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight (OFHEO) later accused the board of having "failed in its duty to follow up on matters brought to its attention." Emanuel resigned from the board in 2001 when he ran for congress.<31>

36. and if we have escalated Afghanistan, have insurance companies enshrined
as the owners of the American health care system and the criminals on Wall Street continue to survive to commit more crimes, propped up with our bail-outs, I'll be supporting any actual liberal.

If, furthermore, the Obama administration has not begun criminal investigations of bushgang crimes, I'll be advocating his impeachment as an accomplice to war crimes.
