So, 24 hours ago, we were all pretty sure that the Limbaugh affair was a huge, huge win for the Dems
and that Obama had maneuvered the Republicans into the awful corner of either having to suck up to pigboy and offend the moderates, or denounce pigboy and then have their entire base come screaming at them in anger. We were all quite pleased with this situation.

Then, Politico writes an unsourced piece saying this was all Rahm Emanuel's great idea. Suddenly, a sizeable portion of DU thinks this was a complete disaster and that the whole Limbaugh affair is further proof that Rahm Emanuel is an awful man who should be nowhere near the White House.

Could someone please explain why this makes sense to anyone?

12. typical Politico shit stirring
Edited on Wed Mar-04-09 08:37 PM by ErinBerin84
They often have scoops, but they also like to pretend that they have scoops (and write tiresome editorials about it), all aimed at getting air time on cable news networks. They also had a piece today that claimed reporters have been sucking up to Obama aides in hopes of getting future press access. Now, I've said this before, but it's worth repeating since it's related. I once emailed Jonathan Martin and mentioned (jokingly, in a very polite way) the McCain journalists BBQ where he brought Cindy McCain flowers. He wrote me a pissy diatribe about how journalists can still socialize and be objective, and how "too much is made" of the BBQ. So I thought the "oh my god, journalists are socializing with the White House!" thing kind of hypocritical. And of course, without sourcing. I think they are still bitter than David Plouffe said their strategy was to ignore everything Halperin and Politico said, because they're always wrong. Again, sometimes Politico has the story before anyone else, but other times, when you read the actual story (like the "Obama's mystery man" story that they believed deserved an editorial, and somehow ended up on the aol home page), it's a whole lot of nothing.

14. Whaddya smoking? I don't see ANY threads complaining, but...
Maybe they're done by people whom I have on my "ignore" list, which, I am sorry to say, grows... & I generally have just been putting the racists and the "obama is the same as bush" people on it.

I'd never take Politico's word on anything that doesn't sound like it came from the mouth of the GOP, they're all ex-GOP flacks over there.

But I hope to gawd the Limbaugh stuff was a planned strategy by political types. It was SMART!!

15. Is there actually anyone here that changed their mind?
I actually think it is a good idea to go after Rush, and despite the fact that I don't like Emmanuel the fact that he may have been one of the primary people pushing this idea doesn't change my opinion one bit. I don't have to like or trust the guy to think that he may have a good idea once in a while.

That being said I have a hard time believing that we were "all" sure this was a huge win, because my guess is there were probably at least a few people among the thousands on this site that did not think it was such a good idea. If you can show me people that changed their mind as a result of Emmanuel's involvement then I will agree that doesn't make much sense, but until I can see evidence of this I don't think you are necessarily making a fair assumption.

And Rahm didnt force Rush to go on CSPAN etc and talk un-American trash.

So if Rahm "planned" this- that means he either has mind control powers, or the RNC is really predictible and stupid.

Makes the RNC look like fools either way.

It's funny how the tone-deaf GOP did this to themselves and suddenly the RW Politico and their flimsy journalistic ethics, suddenly comes out with a "it was all Rahm's plan" BS.

Funny, how everyone named in the article is somehow connected to the Clintons. It's the same old spin and smear machine at work.

43. For Those Who Were Paying Attention During the Clinton Impeachment Years
This is classic Carville/Begala/Emanuel. Pull the pin and throw the grenade, watch the Republicans fall all over themselves, scream and carry on about being attacked and then move one with "doing the nation's business and governing".

And please don't anyone think that President Obama isn't fully aware of what's going on. Axelrod, Gibbs and Plouffe are in on this as well.

The Republicans in Congress are now openly attacking the administration, giving up all pretense of "bi-partisanship". So they now either have to put up or shut up and come out with their plan.

It remains to be seen how long a shelf life this will have, but for today, I think it worked out just fine.
