Don't waste your time on AC360 today
Basically Election of Obama = Stock Market Decline. All the panelists also fairly anti-Obama. The new Republican/MSM talking point is that Obama is doing too much and not even focusing on the stock market & the economy. Are they really that stupid? He has not even tackled any other issues, all he did was put out a budget.

I honestly believe it is the media that is causing the fear that is resulting in the markets falling.

2. yeah, that's what the feel of it last night was too.
David Gergen was like "We have been talking about how Obama is so ambitious, well, now I think he's taking on too much. He can't do health care reform at all or think about it right now. He needs to focus on the stock market!"

8. You didnt like that graph of stock market prices and political events?
That was the strangest segment I've ever seen in my life. No wonder we are in Iraq forever. Thanks America!

9. Does wall St. really deserve this much importance....the workers of the US are basically crap?
Lovely. I think we all need to walk off on a strike and see how the stock market reacts then.

10. I do think the media is exacerbating the fears. But they also hope he fails.
So that's no surprise.

If you tune into CNBC, it's all fear and depression all the time.

They are fomenting the pessimism and trying to create an environment in which the government doesn't feel politically capable of doing what is needed by nationalizing the zombie banks.

11. I guess you forgot about the stimulus plan.
Edited on Tue Mar-03-09 11:59 PM by laugle
IMO, that is the most important part of his plan for the economy. Everyone is waiting to see if it helps to start bringing us out of this major slump.

It is important for Barack to inspire confidence in the markets. So far, it's not happening. The markets are an important indicator, and should not be discounted.

It may well be that he is spreading himself to thin, only he can determine that.

To expect to get much done on health care, when the economy is in a shambles, seems unlikely to me.

I hope he will focus like a laser on the economy, as I know it will turn around, and it will be fun to see the rethugs squirm and Limbaugh try to spin his way out of it!

13. Health Care is part of the solution
I do agree with Obama on that. I see no need to wait to help the millions of Americans who can't pay their medical bills and the companies that have to provide medical insurance without some kind of break.

14. I don't think I said to wait, I'm just not optimistic about much
getting done on that. It's a very complex situation, that will need to be done in small steps. It's clear that something needs to be done, the question is when and how??

As far as it being part of the economic solution, I think that's debateable.........

12. I worry about the media
but more the American people buying the bull that's been repeated night after night on CNN (never mind FoxNews too, but that's too be expected). I hope those who elected Obama don't fall for the fearful handwringing from the pundits and anchors. It just goes to show how Obama IS shaking up the old way of doing things. Wall Street is scared, and the mainstream media can't get out of the mindset that has been running this country since Reagan. When Obama spoke about change, he meant it!
