2. *THAT* should have ended it right here. Wisconsin was Obama's clincher.
At that point, it was impossible for Hillary to overcome the massive lead that Obama had and yet, it wasted a lot of time and money raised, BUT we still took back the country!

36. jim doyle (gov-d) on msnbc- nearly in tears- talking about how team obama
showed up and fed the local campaign, and just how amazingly good they were. that tore it for me. i went from supporting the candidate to really believing in the whole team.

it was a funny day for me. i had gone downtown and made phone calls, even tho i had had surgery and could barely talk. voters all over wis got croaky messages on their answering machines. what a day that was.

and the speech that night! might have been the first of many times that he left me bawling like a baby.

I was deathly ill. Hospitalized the next day. I remember my husbands joy. I'll never forget it.

I wish you unlimited Democratic governments, across-the-board health for all those good kittycats, and an early spring with more crosuses than can be counted.

I'm in the John Birch Society. I just come here for the yuks. My surfing cat says hello. The Little Bear. She's always here with me at computer time. Spring is coming. Despite the forecast of 2-4 inches tomorrow night.

16. Well, Madison was and will always be a Massisive Obama stronghold
Edited on Thu Feb-19-09 10:55 PM by MadBadger
Campus went to Obama like 85-10 or something insane like that. I didnt vote because I was still registered in the Jersey Primary. However, I went to the polls and saw that there was a great turnout. Students for Obama were so big on campus and the organization was outstanding. My favorite memory was a week before when Obama came to the Kohl Center to speak after sweeping the Potomac Primaries to really kick off our primaries.

20. Hawkeye X was right. It should of ended there.
Just like Gettysburg should have ended the Civil War. The crazy thing is. Obama's fortunes went downhill from there. Texas and Ohio. The Reverend Wright. Pennsylvania. He had it clinched. Wisconsin did that. Kudos, Mad.

My friend always wanted it, and I told him that I doubt the person who owned it would agree to that.

Guess who owned that?

23. One of my fave photos of the Obama table...

These women were from the Netherlands and Spain and were two of literally thousands of people who had their photo taken with the Obama cutout. They signed up, got free buttons, day stickers and bumper stickers and engaged in all matters of ups and downs emotionally with the election.

As for the evening we won in Wisconsin, let's just say I ended up dancing to a fantastic New Orleans-style jazz band either crying with joy or laughing my ass off with glee.

A long, strange trip it was...

42. I couldn't help it. This last campaign was the easiest ever for me to want to help out
Edited on Thu Feb-19-09 11:49 PM by zulchzulu
I've worked for campaigns over the years and there was always some reticence about the candidate if I was asked to honestly give a full assessment. I never felt that with Obama. I was glad as hell to go out and work on a grassroots level for the campaign. I knew many others that helped make it seem easy even though it was exhausting on many levels.

I thank Barack Obama AND all those that were passionate for their candidate of choice that were out in the street with clipboards and many layers of parka clothing. It was very cold and lots of snow was on the ground at the time. Still, people were out knocking on doors, phone-banking, driving to small towns to try to convert Republicans away from their lost party and so much more.

It seems like a million years ago.

41. It's absolutely amazing how times DOES heal...
Looking back now at the Wisconsin victory, it indeed is sweet.

What one may forget about the Wisconsin victory for Obama was that it was his ninth straight victory in a row and Ohio was next. Looking back at a thread about that time, I forgot just how contentious that time was and what was yet to come with the twists and turns in the road.

I remember being particularly pissed at Hillary Clinton for not acknowledging Obama's clear victory in Wisconsin and had already moved on to Ohio. Here's a clip:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ek6vRkd4bmY

With Obama's speech, there is electricity. There is enthusiasm. There is momentum like no other campaign I've ever seen.

Voting for Obama today in Madison, the lines were long. People were smiling. People were relaxed. There was a feeling in the air that hope is actually on the way, even though it was five degrees below zero.

The pedal is to the metal. GOBAMA!

OK... it was contentious. It was also exhilarating to see Obama win by over a dozen points in Wisconsin.

Obama was in Texas when he mentioned his Wisconsin victory:

We've all learned a lot and we've all joined in to get Obama in the White House.
