It's looking like wall-to-wall coverage of Obama's visit to Ottawa. A few thousand hearty Canucks braved the cold and security to assemble outside on Parliament Hill for a glimpse of the visitor from the south. Station break graphics show a photo of Obama waving with a smile.

It's a pity all DUers don't get CBC. The tone and tenor of CBC is very clearly different from the US M$M.

1. This Canadian is very proud of our CBC....
I am not, however, took keen on the guy with Obama in this pic:

Stevie couldn't summon a genuine smile for the Canadian people if his life depended on it.

3. That is good he wasn't smiling. He's a robot. They haven't figured out
how to make him smile yet.

7. LOL! It sure seems that way and they have yet to figure out...
how to insert a sense of humour chip in him either. He is the second most humourless, arrogant man I have seen in a long while (bush is the first).

10. He's no Pierre Trudeau, that's for sure.
I'll always miss Trudeau. He sure made changes and, despite a LOT of disagreement, led Canada through some very difficult times.

12. Yes the Trudeau years were great. I'm sure Ignatieff will do well too. I liked Chretien.
But mostly I wanted to see Alexa as PM. Now that would have been cool.

13. Trudeau was great, he drove the Canadian right-wing absolutely nuts....
and LOVED every minute of it. The current repub-lites in Canada would love nothing more to reverse the very progressive changes accomplished during Trudeau's time, NOT going to happen.

CBC is a fresh of breath air ... even if a bit chilly. :silly:

I find it nearly impossible to understand the weather forecasts, though ... centimeters of snow, temperature in Celsius, and wind speed in kph. Yikes.

23. I enjoyed the "man on the street (or lawn)" interviews earlier.
Edited on Thu Feb-19-09 04:57 PM by TahitiNut
It's rare to see so many emotionally demonstrative Canadians together at one time, in my experience. (It kinda reminded me of the old days on Yonge Street.) They were actually somewhat giddy. The interviewer was very clearly amused by them.

because we, apparently, have a delicious item of food called a "beaver tail". So good, President Obama went off the scheduled return to the airport to go get one.

I don't have a flippin clue what it is!!!

Edited to add: Did a search and this is what it is:

This pastry was popularized on Ottawa’s Rideau Canal, the largest skating rink in the world, where it has been served up since the early 1980’s. Essentially a Canadian version of the donut, the dough is made into the flat shape of a beavers tail and flavoured with lemon, maple syrup and cinnamon.

26. I used to get CBC broadcasts through another Canadian cable outlet.
I used to keep my sanity then before there was an Air America or Keith Olberman in the M$M. Al Gore bought the station and turned it into Current TV. I personally don't think it was an improvement as I never watch it anymore.
