...because it's really a blank check to brush off future charges of hyperpartisanship. If the Stimulus Bill works, we will gain MORE seats in 2010, and when that happens, Congress and the President can start pushing through legislation the GOP is bound to hate but can't do a dang thing about (universal health care, environmental protection, liberal SCOTUS judges, etc.)

When the Republicans start whining, Obama can play the good guy and say "Well, remember, I TRIED to meet you folks halfway back in 2009..."

2. If we get senate dems to grow a pair and quit freaking out and compromising...
Edited on Sat Feb-14-09 12:20 PM by Crazy Dave
...every time the republicans threaten to filibuster things would get done a lot faster for the better.

They need a fighting attitude and tell the republicans, "Screw the 60 votes needed for cloture, filibuster you motherfuckers, we'll stay here all night, we'll put it on CSPAN so everyone that votes can watch and because most of the people we could be helping are working a second job all night just to pay for health care!"

Quit being a bunch of pussies who just want to go home on time or to a fund raiser.

5. Very true. Obama came across as the adult in the whole stimulus fight.
The Republicans came across as squabbling solely for the sake of squabbling.

We have far more political capitol to do what Nancy Pelosi and the House did in this battle (yes, Pelosi did quite a few things right) - start by asking them to play ball, and when they started into their obstructionist crap, steamroll them.

9. I would say most of the peeps
who have following the campaign and Prez closely, approve of this. It only makes sense in the larger picture.
