4. It was just the 'praising God for the moment' bit that left me going: uh oh!

6. Me too - for a moment there I thought he was a Freeper and was
going to say something inappropriate.

7. Why? I come from a Latin background the people in my family are always praising God.
It's just what they do. And they say it loudly. You don't need to be a freeper to do such things. There are plenty of people who strongly believe and support God and are learned enough not to say anything inappropriate. I'm surprised one would think that.

11. Not because he was praising God, but because he seemed so
worked up and was yelling almost frantically. For a moment I thought he was going to say something nasty - obviously I was wrong. :)

15. The situation seemed to do that.
Most people were jumping up and down trying to get O's attention.

12. Didn't mean any offence vaberella

Most of my family are religious, in such a situation they would probably say something like "I'm blessed" - it was just Julio's heavy breathing and thanking of "Gracious God" that left me thinking....well, that he was a bit of over-religious for my taste!!

Mind you, I can certainly understand the heavy breathing bit :-)

14. I'm not offended.
I think we have to take something into consideration. I saw people jumping up and down and the area where Obama was standing people were going a bit crazy to get picked for the last question. Obama even told women they weren't included and to put their hands down twice or three times, women were still raising their hands and still trying to get his attention. I thought that accounted for his heavy breathing. As for the "Grace God"...it's quite normal. And around my way, people would do it and start flat out singing on top of that (I wonder how you would react to that.) I've been a bit embarassed by it, but then you get used to it. I remember seeing a Haitian woman singing her way out of the train through the subway platform as she was on yer way home. This is very normal.

9. Meh, lots of religious people love Obama.
Especially in the Hispanic community, where they are extremely Catholic.

13. Thank you. I'm Haitian and let me tell you we're all Catholics.
Sure there are many Repubs in our group, however I know many people who will and have started singing in French to God. Within the Hispanic community it's just done...but I've seen people seem to have this impression that if you believe in religion you're freeper. Or that was the impression one poster gave.

16. Hey, I grew up in a very liberal Irish-Catholic family.
My grandma for the longest time had a picture of Pope John Paul II right next to a picture of John Kennedy.

Prior to that, her parents had a photo of Pope Pius XII and FDR.

10. I'm definitely getting annoyed by the rather silly generalization that
Julio's behaviour because he was religious would in some way make him scary. He's got to meet the President of the United States and out of all the people who had been there he was picked to ask a question and a great one (compared to others Obama was asked) out of the rest. Dead end job, but he's going to school and now he's got reassurance he will probably recieve some benefits and possible prospects. But to go back to the scary thing...many people have been saying this but I don't see why...considering a wide brush is being used when no one person comes from the same background.

A lot of people turn to God when they're in misery and for most it seems that it is the only thing they can depend on. So it was God for him, that gave him the chance to have his voice resounding for the President and get a few things across in the mean time to the American people.

tail off at McDONALDS for a living and only wants HEALTH CARE and an EDUCATION !

It could be any of us. God bless him !
