New GOP chairman Steele accused of spending abuses
The Washington Post reports today that the new chairman of the Republican National Committee, Michael Steele, is under investigation for alleged spending abuses in connection with his 2006 Senate campaign in Maryland.

The Post says Alan Fabian, the campaign finance chairman, told federal investigators that Steele arranged for the campaign to pay his sister's defunct company for services that were never performed.

Fabian made the charge during plea negotiations on unrelated fraud charges, the newspaper said. Curt Anderson, a Steele spokesman, said the allegation came from a convicted felon and had "no substantiation in fact."

2. Well, they wanted a Black person in that office to be some sort of counter to Obama
The only other nationally known Black republican I can think of is Ken Blackwell, and Steele probably looked like a saint compared to him.

4. "the allegation came from a convicted felon and had "no substantiation in fact." "
While I agree that sources like this are shady at best, I can't have much pity for them because if the shoe was on the other foot that wouldn't stop them from using such allegations against a Democrat. It never has in the past.
