Bush Gains, but Not With Swing Voters
Edited on Wed Sep-15-04 05:38 PM by NewYorkerfromMass
Interesting article:

President Bush has been gaining ground among overall voters as a leader and the man to fight terrorism, but swing voters have been less impressed, a tracking poll suggests....

Overall, the Annenberg study found the president received some bounce after the GOP convention on various measures, but that appeared to be declining through the week of polling. Bush's job approval was in the mid-50s early in the period and declined to near 50 percent.

For swing voters, Bush's job approval has declined from the 50s in mid-August to the mid-40s. That may be caused at least partially by Bush solidifying his support and removing some backers from the swing voters group.....

ON EDIT: My take on this is that the pool of swing voters may be diminishing due to Bush's gains, but those remaining undecided are less and less likely to vote for Bush.

3. Only that newsday is doing
the reporting! Makes no sense...only about as much as every other smoke and mirror trick in their bag.

6. Sure, it works like this.
Six people move from the Kerry column to the Swing column while six other people move from the Swing Column to the Bush column.

7. It's logical...they're talking about "internals" in a small sample....
No pollster can poll the whole population. They're doing samples and these small samples indicate that Bush may have strengthened his base...but the independents and swings questioned haven't moved. This actually sounds like good news to me. (For Kerry.)

9. of COURSE it's good news for Kerry!
What it means is that of all the swing voters who are left (and it may be diminishing due to Bush's gains) they are less and less likely to vote for Bush!

8. Methodoloy issues referenced in report: Undecided pool had changed!
Chunk of "undecided" that were in the sample pool in the "before"
survey, were not in "undecided" pool in the "after" survey.

It is logical that the remaining "undecideds" would be less
favorable to Bush.

Too bad.

11. Swing voters that now back a specific candidate
are no longer swing voters.

I guess is what they're trying to say.

10. Also, maybe the number of Republicans for Kerry went down...
The ones who were previously thinking "* doesn't represent my party, so I'm reluctantly voting for Kerry," but are now restoring their allegiance to their party.
