The news media are gleefully reporting that two members of Congress are insisting on an investigation into the National Guard memos, as if this is the most normal thing in the world.
But, since when does the U.S. Congress jump into a story and allege fraud, even before any information has come out? If CBS has committed a crime, the U.S. Attorney should investigate it. If CBS has libeled Bush, he should sue them. But this is bull. These people said not word one when the Swift Boat veterans publicly slandered Kerry and waved around fraudulent affidavits in support of their slander of Kerry. And let's not even talk about Bob Novak and the Plame scandal.
This is nothing more than another attempt by the right wing to stifle any discussion that might tend to be critical of George Bush. It's an abuse of power, plain and simple. And the news media, most of all, should be screaming foul, LOUD! Instead, they just shrug their shoulders and report it like business as usual as the United States government attempts to muzzle and harrass one of their own.
Disgraceful.
Do NOT stand for this. Contact every media outlet you can find and demand to know why they are not vigorously objecting to this blatant violation of the First Amendment.
