2. Well lookie here! Hard even for liars to ignore the obvious forever .
CBS News:

A new CBS News survey out today, detailed in full here, finds that President Obama's approval rating now stands at 62 percent. Fifteen percent disapprove of the president, while 23 percent have not made a decision.

It is not unusual for a newly-inaugurated president to enjoy a favorable approval rating, though Mr. Obama's rating two weeks into his presidency exceeds that of his two immediate predecessors.

Both George W. Bush and Bill Clinton had approval ratings of 53 percent around this point in their presidency; George H.W. Bush, with a 61 percent approval rating at this point, nearly matched Mr. Obama.

5. The MSM controls the word of the common person.
I would hope the internet would fix that but that hope is fading as it seems people are more parrot then person.

7. I can understand Faux or CNN using loaded figures, but..
I heard Matthews today use the fake percentage figures today, too. What gives?

22. Tweety's a hack.
That's what gives.

As Chuck Todd pointed out yesterday on Morning Joe, to much mocking from the Morning Zoo Crew, the stimulus-package blowback is a strictly-inside-the-beltway phenomenon.

8. Speaking of the MSMM (mainstream media machine), be sure to watch Moyers tonight!

NEWSLETTER - Friday, February 6, 2009

“Journalists, historically, have been thought of as change agents, as mechanisms to check and
alter government power. What they've now become is the opposite. They are essentially,
the greatest impediment to changing political power, because they have been integrated so completely into it, and are vested in its preservation. And so, I think whatever change occurs is going to occur
despite our journalist class, rather than because of them.”

- Glenn Greenwald

This week on BILL MOYERS JOURNAL (check local listings)

In an increasingly political media environment, how has journalism responded to the task of getting to the truth and informing the public? Bill Moyers sits down with NYU journalism professor and PressThink blogger Jay Rosen and political journalist and Salon.com blogger Glenn Greenwald.

The legacy and legend of Lincoln. As Abraham Lincoln's bicentennial birthday approaches, Bill Moyers sits down with historian and Lincoln biographer Eric Foner to discuss the legacy and the legend of America's most studied president. Having just received Illinois' highest honor, the Order of Lincoln, Eric Foner is author of OUR LINCOLN: NEW PERSPECTIVES ON LINCOLN AND HIS WORLD and speaks to Moyers about the evolution of Lincoln's image from politician to icon.

Cool Commanders-in-Chief. Who was America's greatest President?

Politics, the Press and the Public. Is media part of the Beltway problem?

Take our poll. Do you support President Obama's economic stimulus plan?

9. The good 'news' is that WTP (We The People) have become very savvy and good at spotting the lies.
Edited on Fri Feb-06-09 06:19 AM by Dover

We are learning to trust the reality WE are attuned to, and don't rely as much on the media or polls
to inform our perceptions.... and we are doing it in numbers too big to ignore. BRAVO!!!!

It's kind of like if the weather man began to lie to us, we'd soon learn to 'read' the weather
ourselves...because it's something we 'know' how to do in our gut but have rarely had to use this
instinct. We must NEVER lose touch with our own instincts, and MUST learn to trust them.

11. Been explained
As I read somewhere else on DU the 20 point drop is bull. They are comparing a poll that asked how people felt President Obama was doing with the transition (80+ % approval) to a poll of how President Obama is currently doing in office (60+ %). Obviously not a valid comparison. Someone earlier in this thread pointed out that Obama's approval rating is higher than previous presidents at this point in their administrations that is what should be reported.

15. Thanks! I just saw one of the threads, and if my
internet connect hadn't been so off and on the past many hours I might have seen it, and posted the new Gallop poll there instead of starting a new thread.

14. the media just like the repubs party does not know how to handle
a popular President, so of course they would try to tarnish him. He's been in office for only 17 days. The media needs to be called out!!!

17. My letter to Mr. Matthews:
Edited on Fri Feb-06-09 11:42 AM by janet118
Please stop using fuzzy poll statistics to pretend that President Obama's "job approval" rating has dropped precipitously. His JA rating was never 83% - it was around 68%. That 83% number is from an entirely different poll about the transition. You should, and probably do, know this. Yet, you are creating the impression that the public is not supporting Obama. Why? The last poll I saw showed that Obama had a 15% disapproval rating - much the same as always. In these dire times, it is important to back our new president. Those entrusted with access to public airwaves should not be attempting to immobilize him by lying using phony statistics. I don't understand why you are doing this. I also found your comment about Obama's use of a teleprompter ridiculous, especially after listening to Bush for 8 years. And your reference to how Obama talks to his wife and family was disrespectful.

Thank you for your time.

I've been both emailing them and calling them with a very similar message for 4 days now. I also told them if I wanted disinformation I'd watch Faux. They KNOW they're lying now.

21. Thank you! Every letter helps...that's for sure! So does the calls.
They know they are lying, but keep hoping not enough pay attention and they don't get caught.

The day I hear them say they "screwed up" is the day that they might give us hope to become what journalists are supposed to be, not what they pretend.
