Maybe RWers are just plain stupid.
That was my reaction after reading Andy Card's remarkably revealing screed on the need for coats and ties in the oval office. Card is often cited as an example of sensible, moderate Republicanism. What he is is the empty suit who likened the lies told to launch the Iraq War to a new product roll out. He did this with no qualms or irony. After more than 4,000 US soldiers killed, tens of thousands maimed and countless Iraqi casualties what offends him is shirtsleeves in the oval office. He is a leading fool in a party of fools.

1. Maybe?
I think "stupid" is the definition of being a Republican.

5.  I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt,
even Republicans. I have always thought the RWers were wrong-headed not just plain dumb. But this comment from Card is so stupid and revealing, I have had to rethink my otherwise generous attitude. BTW though I have been unwilling to question their intelligence in general, I have always beliueved they are heartless, selfish and war mongers.

2. They favor form over substance.
This business about proper attire in the oval office is a perfect example.

3. That was just a failed cheap jab at Obama.
While I do agree with your characterization of Andy, he was just throwing random crap at Obama. The rw noise machine has been doing this since Obama got the Democratic nomination (only slightly pausing for the inauguration)

9. Yeah. You'll notice that every former Bush person that gets on TV or radio has SOME kind of jab.
There was some TV event preparation consultant for Bush who was on POTUS radio (shitty right leaning political station IMO), and while he was over all complimentary in a vague way, he had to comment that he thought the series of interviews Obama did in the White House the other day was poorly put together, looked bad etc.

That goes along with this jacket and tie nonsense (really helped GWB be a great president, huh? So shut the fuck up), and Cheney's little screed.

11. Wow, that says it all, doesn't it? And when he took it off during Katrina
it was even more disgusting because all he cared about was that he "looked like" he was workin' hard.

Ugh. My disgust for that man knows no bounds.

10. I wish that were the case. My RW family members are all very, very smart.
We're talking lots of advanced degrees smart, not just folks who can do the NYT crossword puzzle.

Sadly, I have come to the conclusion that there is something missing in them. Maybe they have no empathy for other people. Maybe they have no courage so they live their lives in fear. Oh, I can think of lots of good things that they're missing.

Problem is, I play that game to excuse their horrible behavior and attitudes and prejudices because it is just TOO DAMNED HARD to think about my own family being evil and petty and vindictive.

I am thankful every day that I married a liberal man and that I raised good, caring, liberal boys who are now good, caring, liberal men.

13. They are the rubes that fall for Big Money's lies and swagger.
But no, some right-wingers are greedy and smart enough, at least, to use the more dim-witted among us to support their brand of feudalism. You don't have to be stupid to be an American right-winger, but it helps.

15. Actually, they're brilliant
This is the type of crap that keeps the RW nutjobs from wandering off the ranch. You can't get the booboisie to understand the complexities of the jobs bill or universal health care -- but you can really rattle the cages with the not wearing jackets thing.

It's merely a bright, shiny object to keep the base distracted. It's something they can get their brains around and they can wail about it day and night.

I have a nice shiny quarter that says if I were to call my sister and brother-in-law right now, I'd hear all about Obama disrespecting the oval office by going jacketless -- but they'd only be able to mouth a few talking points about the jobs bill or health care.

22. I don't care if Obama permits his male visitors
to wear only their skivvies, wife-beaters and support socks and shoes in the Oval Office, and the females only in slips, bras, garters, nylons and high heels, as it is what they DO in there that is important, not how well-dressed and coiffed they are. Some of the worst criminals in US history were dapper dressers, ala John Gotti.

29. Andy Card is a lickspittle.
He is a willing lapdog of the wealthy powerful elite. It is the only way someone of his limited talents could be useful in a productive society.

In another time, he could have been considered good enough to hold the reins for his betters, while tugging his forelock.
