Debates Getting Finalized
Edited on Wed Sep-15-04 03:12 PM by jefferson_dem
Punk-ass sludge has linked up to a memo from Chimpy's handlers to the Dem debate negotiation team. From what i can decipher, looks like they have agreed to all four debates. They have framed it as if the Kerry was stalling, talk about time for "rehearsals."

Whatever...four is good. The more opportunities to expose Chimp and all his deplorable shenanigans, the better.

2. Yeah, I'm sure that's a REAL memo
:eyes:

Without even looking I smell a "memo" written just to be released through Smudge to make the Bush side look good.

Talk about wagging the dog.

3. remember, lower the standards for Kerry, and raise them for Bush
tell everyone Kerry is not a good debator. tell them how bush has won every debate he has been in. tell them that as a kerry supporter you like what he has to offer but he is not that great a debator so you will be happy if he can just get through it.

"bush has won every debate he's ever participated in"

4. I would think Georgie would want the Town Hall Debate foremat
..then he can look all folksy and stumble bumbling as he talks and THEN the whores can tell us he just slam dunked Kerry because people could just identify with folksy, down to earth, common boy George and Kerrry was 'wooden'-----feel free to stick in any other words where I used 'wooden' because you can bet those remarks are being written as we speak and rehearsed by the whores.

6. They are afraid of how George will react to unscripted questions.

I don't think he's faced a hostile question since he's been in the White House -- literally not one. All his town halls were packed with Republicans who threw softballs to him:

Republican: "Mr. President, I want to thank you for your service in the National Guard. It makes me feel good knowing you were willing to serve our country in its time of need."

Bush: "Thank you. Thank you very much."

Republican: "And now for my question: Is it OK if I pray for you?"

This sounds like an exaggeration, but there was actually a series that went like that in his town halls.

Nevertheless, these debate formats, except for the town halls, suck, and make it extremely unlikely Bush will be put in a situation where his stumbling will hurt him.

I was going over some of the transcripts from the Mondale-Reagan debates, and Mondale cleaned Reagan's clock in the first one, simply bitch slapped him into tomorrow. The second one was a draw -- or should have been, except Reagan unleashed a one-liner, "I'm not going to take advantage of my opponent's youth and inexperience." And for that one line, Reagan was anointed the clear winner, just as he was anointed the winner in the Carter-Reagan debate, a debate Carter clearly won on the issues, with his "There you go again" line. The upshot is, one-liners and chuckles and the like are given far more weighting than substantive answers. Under those circumstances, anyone can mumble their way through a debate and look good if they're able to toss off a one-liner, or the media decide to focus on something non-substantive, like Gore's sigh.

5. memo doesn't say that
as i read it, no agreement yet- the memo is a request for the campaigns to expedite a final decision in order to go forward with 4 debates as planned. The Chimpanzee will (I imagine) climb up a tree and eat a banana before he does a 3rd debate.

8. They didn't formally commit to all debates but the way
they frame things --- about all the planning and la di da - seems that they would be hard pressed to bail on any one of them. But who knows? I hate the debates ABOUT the debates. Let's freaking get it on and get to the issues.
