Sen. Shelby On Stimulus Filibuster: Let's Do It
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) may be keeping his cards close to the vest on the stimulus bill, but at least one of his conservative troops isn't shy. A reader sends in a report from Richard Shelby's (R-AL) local appearance this morning, in which he urges Senate GOP colleagues to filibuster the recovery bil. Here's how Shelby put it:

Are we prepared to filibuster? Hope so. But I'm afraid we may have two or three that might jump ship.

It's worth noting that Shelby, the senior GOPer on the Banking Committee, was one of the leaders in convincing his party to support a filibuster of last year's auto industry bailout.

9. What is it
with you and others who continue to belittle Obama for trying to include Republicans in this? Haven't you paid any attention to what the people have been saying? They're tired of the partisan bullshit that's gone on for far to long.

No, it's folks like you who want Obama to say fuck off to the Republicans and then turn the people against him for being just like George W. Bush. Give the man a fucking break. He paid attention to the American people, perhaps you should do the same.

In fact maybe you haven't noticed it is the REPUKES fucking things up. Grab the clue phone. Obama being any thing like Bush is an oxymoron. Obama does not need the fucking REPUKES to do his job. They fucking LOST. Go call John McLame with your poutrage.

17. I have
my clue phone. And I'm well aware of the way things are and what Republicans are all about.

So please, find someone who is clueless and try to school them. I pay attention. The people are tired of the same old shit and the partisan bullshit that goes on in Washington. Ah, why waste my time on one who doesn't want to see things for what they are.

7. They should go ahead.
Folks losing their jobs. Folks losing value in their 401Ks.

Americans will be interested in seeing the length Republicans go
in order to keep up the partisan pap.

This would be a good thing.........for anyone by the Republicans. :)

12. What makes the GOP think that what they are arguing over and/or
insisting on will be different than the same things that have been proven to fail? Why do they think that what they oppose so vehemently is worse than that? I don't see new plans or proposals, I see sort of an insistence that we include much of the very things or priorities that we are all witnesses that this stuff didn't work...?

Am I just oversimplifying things? Perhaps... but I haven't seen much to give me an alternative hope here...

16. The pukes are kind of like the goldfish getting flushed down the toilet.
It might not be completely dead, it might feel perfectly at home in the water, it might swim against the stream when the handle is pushed down and the water begins to swirl, but they are going to get washed into the sewer while people look down and wave goodbye.

This is a very short-sighted attempt at proving relevance. It. Will. Fail.

19. My bet is that they get clotured.
Obama will have to throw a few bones to the DINOs like Nelson, and to Snowe and Collins, but once that's accomplished, the Rethugs won't be able to sustain their filibuster, and will come across as douches, again, for trying.
