Joke of the day: National Guard members upset about "besmirching" of guard
Edited on Wed Sep-15-04 12:42 PM by Proud2BAmurkin
Idiot Repuke on CNN says "some" Guard members upset that the Guard is being portrayed as a way to avoid combat in Vietnam.

Uh. IT WAS USED AS A WAY TO AVOID COMBAT IN VIETNAM IDIOT.

Kerry ought to dig up the quotes from George HW Bush accusing Lloyd Bentson's son of joining the Guard to get out of combat and AWOL himself saying he joined because it was better than shooting out his eardrum.

9. Another group that used the Guard to avoid Viet Nam were
the professional athletes - virtually the entire Major leagues in the major sports, NFL, MLB, & NBA players.

12. WIA / KIA in Vietnam were not disproportional as to race.
Of course rich/poor is another story. Rich kids went to college. Poor kids went to Nam.

16. In the guard I think Race was disproportionate
But then again maybe I am wrong. The poor thing however didn't exist in the 1968 guard.

3. To equate the guard service of today to that of the past is nonsense

6. Exactly -- another example of creating confusion purposely
The guard is being stretched thin and misused by the Bushboy now, but during Vietnam it was known as a way to avoid combat.

4. Not to mention Powell's statements
about his disgust with people who used their family influence to get into the guard and avoid the draft.

5. Yes it was used to get out of combat for vietnam - and this is
I believe the first time they have been sent into a war - not including WWII or WWI - which were entirely different circumstances

where were the hijackers from?
what country financed the hijackers?
What country did BushCo fly relatives out of usa after 911?

7. what took them so long?? I was waiting for this pitiful cry job ever
since the controversy over his records broke. My answer to it is: if the boys had a brain they would realize that they had to trudge through years of 'going to Guard' while this lame bastard was partying, snooting down his nose at them, and making a joke out of the National Guard. GROW UP BOYS--(by the way, the MEN went to 'Nam).

8. Vietnam era NG service=Legal way out of Vietnam....
Today's NG service=Sure way to get yourself deployed 9 months out of every 12 and collect more combat-zone service ribbons than most Cold War-era 20year retirees.

Any F'ing questions?!?!?!?!

13. I thought it was an overwhelming surge of patriotism ...
that had the Guard at 110% during Vietnam. Yessir, all the Quayles and Bushes just felt a strong desire to serve. The fact that the Guard didn't go to Nam had nothing to do with it.

Bwwaaaahahahahahaha!! Who are these people kidding?????

My question: How did Bush get into a unit that was oversstrength already???? They must have pegged him as a natural leader and moved him to the top of the list.

My 2d question: Since Georgie bumped others down the list - WHO WENT TO NAM FOR GEORGIE??

10. What they should be pissed about
Is the fact that they've been put into combat in a foreign war, their enlistments have been extended and their families left holding the bag.

Personally I'd be wondering why Guard service didn't save my ass from being shipped to Iraq!

19. Maybe they should read the NG's own history on NG's own website
This from ANG's OWN WEBSITE;

The Reserves and the Guard acquired reputations as draft havens for relatively affluent young white men.

3rd paragraph from the bottom.

overwhelmed by a patriotic feeling to take on Victor Charles and the NVA there were faster and more sure fire ways of doing it other than joining the TANG.
