is there a shortage of Kerry/Edwards lawn signs?
in my liberal city, I have yet to see one. I have seen countless for John Dorn, our Democratic State Rep. I have seen many for Leigh Pomeroy, the Democratic candidate for U.S. House. In the nearby town I work in, I've seen many for Ruth Johnson, the Democratic candidate for state Rep. there. But I have yet to see any Kerry/Edwards. Pretty sad when */Cheney has more lawn signs than Kerry/Edwards HERE. Kerry/Edwards bumper stickers are everywhere however.

In Minneapolis, I've seen a total of ONE Kerry/Edwards lawn sign. Most houses did have anti-* or anti-war signs up. What's with the lack of signs?

1. You don't say where you are...
are you in a swing state? I am in a red state. We have to buy our own damn yard signs. Nevertheless, I am seeing more KE than BC. Wooo!

19. I was told at the fair when I requested a sign that the campaign decided
to put them up in masses before the election. It's calculated a plan to ... wait shhhhhhhhhhhh.

9. Paying for Signs
Hi -
The reason you have to buy signs is not because you live in a red state, it's because of McCain-Feingold. Essentially, giving out signs, bumper stickers, tee-shirts, etc. can be viewed as in-kind contributions and (as I understand it) must be reported as part of an election's bookkeeping -- a pain in the ass and a fine way to make it a little bit harder to empower people politically ... Thanks, Congress!!!

2. Not in my neighborhood
And I live in one of the more Republican ares of the country. They're everywhere. In fact, I've only seen one or 2 Bush signs compared to 30 or 40 Kerry ones. it's a bit surprising, really.

4. I think it might be fear of retaliation. I don't have one on my lawn,
and I don't have a bumper sticker on my car either. The K/E signs that people have put up around here have been either stolen, or junk was thrown all over the lawn. Cars with K/E stickers on have been keyed. Now, I know this is N. Ga., but it may be other places too.

6. I doubt there'd be much fear of that here
and there are loads of bumper stickers. and that's nothing to worry about in Minneapolis, where the population of * supporters is approx. equal to that of the population of dodos.

10. I was just told last week that signs were not yet in
That from two different County hq's in Minnesota. I was called to distribute them and what they asked for were orders/estimates - I failed to ask for delivery timeline.

7. I agree. I am in liberal mecca, San Francisco, and the number of...
Kerry signs and bumper stickers are few and far between. Contrast it to the mayor's election and everyone had a sign in the window. I don't get it.

I have mine proudly displayed.

8. I live in Los Angeles and I have One

They are in short supply here.
I go to a lot of Democratic events and there is a shortage of buttons and bumper stickers too.

People have told me when I register voters that they have written the campaign for one and it never arrived.

What is the problem!

12. Every time I order something
from kerrygear.com I have been told that it is "backordered due to high volume" ... this was my t-shirt order, also my bumpersticker order.

We just got a bunch of people together and ordered our own damn signs from a print shop. I was not the organizer, so I don't know how they did it, but it worked out to about $2 each.

Re: giving out free stuff. Oh well, don't tell anyone, I'm violating McCain-Feingold all over the place. I ask people for a token donation to cover costs but if they want some swag and can't afford it I just give it to 'em. I don't care if I'm out the $$$, I'd rather have the stuff out there than sitting on my coffee table.

and Bush signs everywhere.

This is in a very Democratic area.

Said she was going to goto Kerry headquarters
to get some for her area soon.

14. they're charging $5 for 'em here!
and the signs themselves are bogus. U-shaped piece of heavy gauge wire with the actual sign printed on a vinyl sleeve that slides over the top. well, there's no way to hammer the two points of the U-shaped wire into the ground so that the sign stands up to any sort of wind. gimme a placard on a piece of a wood i can hammer into the ground, ya know? it's been working just fine for decades, but now we hafta go and re-invent the wheel because some kid with a poli-sci degree has a new idea...

and since i'm in a semi-rural area, i can't afford to be passing out K-E yard signs at $5 a pop. and out here, who your neighbor votes for counts for a lot. some more K-E signs would make a real difference. trying to make this argument at the local campaign HQ is as effective as making it to my dog, however.

16. Get some people together
and do your own order with a local sign printer. These things don't cost more than about $2 to make. Our local DP is also trying to charge $5. HA! What a crock.

22. We ask for a 2.50 donation
at our office to cover the cost (bulk order and shipping) - perhaps the volunteers in your office, like ours, pay for the signs and buttons out of their own pockets. I front a lot of cash for stuff here and just hope people will understand that I can't fund this campaign by myself! We have gotten NOTHING free from the campaign, because they just can't spend their money this way I guess.

20. Maybe because your local campaign office has no more
to say about it than you do! I am helping to run our local office and WOW! do people have a lot of complaints. We are all (or mostly) volunteers doing our damndest with no more influence or resources than anybody else on the street.

Perhaps you can make your own? Every campaign out here uses the metal frame now, but you can still get a John Kerry cardboard rally sign from demstore.com and staple it to a wooden stake if you prefer? We made some signs recently:

War is NOT an Energy Policy/Vote Kerry
Pro-Choice = Pro-Kerry
Vote for Planet Earth-Vote Kerry
etc.

For the metal frame, to get the posts in the ground, why not try hammering a long nail in first to pre-drill the holes, then pound the frame in with a hammer? (You have to be careful though to keep from bending the frame.)

We've passed out over 200 signs in my town since our office opened. Some have been repeatedly stolen - so folks come back for new ones.

18. One reason could be....
a LOT of Kerry/Edwards yard signs are being stolen and vandalized. Also, some people are afraid of the evil gopers because they will go to any lengths to see that Kerry doesn't win. Some people may be simply afraid to have them in their yard. I know of some people who had their car keyed because they had a Kerry bumper sticker on it.

Edited on Wed Sep-15-04 01:52 PM by JI7
yourself through a website or calling somewhere. that's what i did. the same goes for many solid red states.

the more competitive states are where they often hand things out for free.
