Regarding the October Surprise
Edited on Wed Sep-15-04 11:13 AM by saywhat
This weekend I read a link to a statement by Wesley Clark. The General said that * was planning to invade Iran this October. Now, if anybody but Clark had said this I'd take it with a grain of salt. But the General is impeccably honest and well informed. I'm sure he has sources in the military to kill for.

Here's what I'm getting at. If Kerry really does have an October surprise in the works, Rove must know about it (if we have heard the rumor, Rove probably knows the details) and is helpless to stop the damage (if he could he'd be doing something right now). My fear is that the bushies will invade Iran to deflect attention from whatever bombshell Kerry has, as well as squash any discussion and criticism of * during this time of "war".

1. I like Wes Clark, but let's not forget he also predicted...
..the Kerry/Intern story, and we all know how that turned out.

2. I certainly hope the General is wrong,
but in terms of military matters he's been dead on.

3. I don't think invading Iran will help bushit
In fact I think people would react much like the people of Spain did during their election.

6. Invading Iran would be so unpopular
Unlike Iraq, Iran actually has the ability to defend itself, and a semi-elected government. We are already overextended militarily. I can't imagine it happening, even under the twisted logic of Bushworld.

4. Wesley shouldn't have said this
Since an Iran war of any kind--even a bombing--would quickly become an unpopular disaster, Wesley is only taking a chance of being wrong and crying wolf.

5. I think Rove knows invading another country just
before the election would be political suicide for this administration. Hell, we're all very unhappy with the way Iraq is going so in invade anyplace else would really piss us all off and Bush would probably be impeached before the election. They can't be that stupid.

7. There will be riots in the streets ...
... if he does.

There is no manpower to do the job and we will have ZERO allies!!!!!

They would have to call up ALL the reserves and anybody who had any remaining inactive reserve status.

Iraq is a paintball game compared to what Iran would be. It would be a bloodbath.

There would be NO DOUBT that a draft would be necessary to pursue operations there.

8. I wonder if riots would even make any difference these days...
They'd just be quashed and not reported in the media.

Excellent point about the draft.

I have wondered if * would really risk this right before an election?
