More proof Bush is toast!
I saw one of my kids teachers today I have not seen for 4 months.
He is a devout, bible thumping Christian. He believes life starts the minute the sperm penetrates the egg and he is completely "pro-life."
He does not even listen to the radio because most of the songs in his opinion are "the Devil's music." (He smiled when he said that but he dislikes almost every song since the late 1950's)

When we last saw each other I asked him who he supported in the election even though I knew his answer. "Bush," he said.

We had a friendly discussion about Kerry vs Bush and both of us were firm on our points, but I could not sway him. (Despite the way I presented him with facts that George Bush is NOT "a good Christian.")

So I saw him this morning at an evaluation for my 3 year old (who is a little speech delayed) and with a big smile I asked him, "You still voting for Bush."

He smiled back at me and asked, "Do you have any other choice?"

I replied in astonishment, "What do you mean?!"

He answered, "My wife and I can't vote for him for alot of reasons. I'm reluctantly voting for Kerry."

When I picked my jaw up off the floor all I could say to him was, "You made my day," and he laughed.

I wish I had the word power to describe to you how devoutly devoted he was to Bush 4 months ago.
The meeting for my kid started a minute after that and I could not find out what events changed he and his wifes mind, but it occured to me driving home there are literally hundreds of reasons why.... and I didn't care.

If this man and his spouse could change, anyone can.
I personally NOW KNOW 9 die hard Republicans voting for Kerry and 11 kids 18 to 24 who did not give a flying shit about politics and have registered to vote against Bush.

I have YET to meet a Gore supporter who is voting for Bush.

November 2nd it's Kerry in a LANDSLIDE. We just have to keep working!

4. I agree completely, and thank you for your optimism!
We need a breathe of that here on DU these days. People have blinders on and think that skewed post-convention polls showing a predicted Bush bounce are the end of the world. It's very much not, and we need to get re-energized.

5. You know, most of the time I feel the same way......................
Edited on Wed Sep-15-04 10:57 AM by TheDeb
It's gotta be Kerry-Edwards in a landslide. But I run into so few people that feel the same way that I worry that we may be delusional.

edit: in the time it took me to post, 4 other landsliders posted, too.

So, I guess we are not alone :^)

6. I live in a very REd state (Kansas) and know many R's voting for
Kerry or at least NOT voting for Bush. Also, know many R's here who are so sick of the conservative tilt of their party in this state that they are working with us to get Dems elected to the state legislature.
One of the top R's in the state house said this summer that by 2008 they don't want any "moderates" in their party here. They went a long way towards their coup this year and plan to finalize it in 2006 when they run Sen. Brownback (ultra right wing fanatci) against our current Dem Gov Sebelius. We'll need all the help we can get then so be ready.

7. What are his reasons ?
If you can find out what changed HIS mind, maybe same points/tactics can be used to sway other fence-sitting fundies.

Thanks !

27. I talked to him again a half hour ago!!!!!
My wife came home from work and she had to talk to him about our daughter's new school. I sat next to her and when she was done I asked for the phone.
He said (again) there are several reasons including being deeply offended with Quote "all the hate" at the convention!!!!!!!

He also said quote "I want to hear how to get out of Iraq and he dosen't seem to have an idea."

I am going to sleep extra good tonight!

I think this is far more common than is being reported and, now that the Iraq War is getting some attention, I am even more confident that things are finally going our way!!

19. Cool! Can I give you another reason Kerry will win?
We just had our primary vote here in Washington State. In checking the results in just two districts, one that are notoriously GOP, the Democrats outvoted the Republicans 2 to 1. That's twice as many people voting Democrat in both, heavily GOP, districts. And.. the Democrat absentee ballots disparity was staggering. People got the message, and the Democrats are voting in BIG numbers this time... AND, after the fears of computer voting have been raised, the absentee ballots have skyrocketed. Lots and lots of NEW voters (ones that are NOT polled).

The good thing about your story, is that people like your heavy-duty Christian friend, rarely do anything in a vacuum. Feel good knowing that the word is out in his community about Bush. Cool.

23. I'm very confident
Look how close it was in 2000. Now think about how many people you know or have heard of who voted for Bush then but are disgusted with him now. Do you know anyone who's gone the opposite way? Who voted for Gore (or anyone else) and is now voting for Bush? I don't and I've heard very few stories of people who are. Very few and the ones I've heard, I doubt.

There's no room for complacency but there's no room for gloom either. We're going to win this thing!

26. i agree. here in tucson, people are signing up in droves to
help turn AZ blue. last night around 500 people showed up to our local turnAZblue meeting (i posted some pics of this in the AZ state board). the numbers that are showing up are staggering, thanks to bush. and i don't think we are an isolated phenomenon at all. i think people are recognizing that we have a madman in office and people are scared into action. i truly think AZ will go blue this time.

30. I just went for curb side pick up and I saw nothing but Kerry/Edwards
stickers! I'm telling you, even with all the media pounding and the AM hate radio people, it's amazing that Kerry is doing so well. But it goes to show you, once again, Gandhi was right, the truth always finds a way. I think if the lie would continue to win, humanity would turn against each other, more so than how Bush has caused it today, and we would destroy each other. So keep the faith in each other, the truth will set us all free. Bush is NOT a good man or a good 'Christian,' it's inspiring to see that people can see through the falseness and marketing.
