these are annonymus opinions that people call and give...in the Wichita eagle. I think they read DU because I made this comparrison about bush and jr ewing yesterday here on DU...

http://www.kansas.com/mld/kansas/news/editorial/9663154.htm

John Kerry reminds me a little of John Rambo. George W. Bush reminds me a lot of J.R. Ewing.

President Bush needs to get his priorities straight. He needs to finish his National Guard service before running for re-election.

Please don't let Bush and Cheney scare you into voting for them. Remember that 9/11 happened eight months into their watch.

Anyone who thinks that Zell Miller was accurate and to the point in his convention speech needs to get back on medication.

Wichita

As I put my flag out on its pole the other day to commemorate 9/11, I reflected back to the day. Everyone can tell you what he or she was doing on the day. This will be remembered for a long time. I did then what I always try to do -- find good out of every bad. Three years ago, the good was that the tragedy of 9/11 brought the American people closer. I felt at the time there were no Democrats or Republicans but rather "one nation" working together to help mend. Everyone was pulling together to make a strong nation.

I don't know exactly when it happened, but today, we are further away from "one nation" than we've ever been. Gone is the patriotic feeling of "working together." I feel that President Bush had the opportunity to keep America together and keep us strong as "one nation." He failed to do this, and instead took off with his agenda.

All I ask of the American people is to think back to what they were doing on 9/11 and several days after. Is this the direction that you would have predicted?

LISA CUSHING
Wichita

I have concluded that George W. Bush has betrayed the United States of America. For almost 230 years, truth and justice have been the American way. We have stood for what is right in the world. We have fought for freedom and democracy, not only for ourselves but to defend other nations. We have never started a war.

Until now. Bush's personal agenda led him to manipulate intelligence and lie to you and me to trick us into supporting an invasion of Iraq. By doing this, Bush has betrayed the fundamental nature of America. Not only should he not be re-elected in November, he should be impeached. Bush is unfit for command.

1. I am in Wichita too. Sometimes the Opinion line does get a few good
calls; unfortunately, itis usually the dumbest of the bunch that get printed.

3. I'm in Overland Park
and there are many more Democrats here than anyone realizes. At least 20%, maybe 30% of all registered Republicans are really Democrats who will vote for Dems in November if they're on the ballot. Unfortunately, these false Republicans make the D's look weaker and the R's look stronger, which is one reason it's so hard to get Democrats to run for office here.

I'm on a personal mission to persuade people to actually register with the party they most support.

Oh, and I'm definitely seeing more Kerry/Edwards bumper stickers and yard signs than Bush/Cheney ones.

8. The football season has started, so I decided its only football for me...
And signed up last night as a campaign captin in my precinct. I've realized that talking politics online is purely for entertainment purposes only.

There was a time when I thought it was my job to unspin the RW propaganda at a board like the Planet where there are lots of lurkers and people who might buy into the lies. I thought it was even more important because KC fans are often in Missouri.

But in the end it's a waste of energy. I might go back to the DC forum at some point, but for now it's only football, and volunteering here in AZ.

12. I was wondering about that... that's great news!
I really glad to hear it. I saw another one of your threads about a month ago and asked how you were... but with the pace of things around here, if you miss a day your threads disappear.

14. Where in Overland Park?
I've got some extra Kerry signs.

We keep on putting up various signs (Moore, Mainstream Majority, Hartney, Kerry) two at a time and leave them up for a couple of days. Then we take them down, put something else up, or leave the yard bare for a while.

In early 2003 when we had anti-war signs up, they were routinely vandalized or stolen. We simply replaced them. On two different occasions someone placed homemade signs in our yard expressing such lovely sentiments as: Eat a croissant, hippy (yes it was misspelled that way) and Hug a Tree and a couple of others. We found it highly amusing and left them up for a while. It was fun watching people slow down as they drove by to see just what was written.

You can do the spray PAM or its equivalent on the sign, which makes it unpleasant to steal, or just put in new ones. I tend to prefer the latter, because it's a much quieter statement about not backing down or being intimidated.
