Obama! Stop supporting the Advice of Republicans who got us into this mess!
The Republicans who are entrenched in government and have been for the last 8 years have failed the American people. The only way they can get back in power is to make a mess of your presidency and they have to make a bigger mess of it than the previous presidency. Many Republicans see this as a game. Politics is a game to the likes of Rove and Bush and yes McConnell and Boehner. They don't care about bi-partisan support. They care about changing the landscape.

OBAMA! I know you are smart enough to outwit them... but... please... you're giving people fits, making concessions to a party that has wrecked their own brand and ALL THEY WANT to do is see you fail. Neo-conservative ideals are a joke. The Republicans as well as Democrats gave the first half of the money to corporations without any oversight. Now the Conservatives are determined that you put oversight on the table with the rest of the TARP. They said nothing about the continued practice of CEO bonuses and giveaways. But the very mention of health-care and giving tax cuts to the people who need them... they say "NO WAY".

Turn the other cheek. See the good in all people. But... stop seeing the Neo-conservatives as practical, trustworthy and clear headed. They are not. They are game players who are in it to win back power. The American people aren't high on the list of priorities unless it's to get their vote. And the notion that the majority of their party has gleefully accepted you as their leader is more than a notion. Conservative ideas mean they prefer standing still and if they move at all they move in small increments. Right now they are standing still. So here it is. If stupidity can move it most certainly moves in lockstep.

8. If he didn't listen to them then why did they take family planning out of the stimulus?
He talked about preventative medicine. The conservatives call it birth control and we call it family planning and when they say it the way they say it that's called talking to their base. They are trying to embarrass President Obama.

12. it's idiotic to put that in the stimulus bill
and once in, it was handled horribly by congressional dems.

31. It did not belong in the stimulus package. It is easy for the republicans to criticize it.

16. Family Planning will be dealt with soon enough
I don't think there is any doubt that we will get a family planning package. There is certainly a fair argument to make that it is not "stimulus" and as such should not be in this package. As long as we get it down the line I will be happy, and Obama gets to look like he is taking GOP concerns to heart.

29. Because the Senate was going scrap it anyway. It has no business being
in a stimulus package.

To the GOP, compromising with them is the same as capitulating to them.
Did the repukes ever do any "compromising" when they were in power? Not that I remember.

3. Relax, Obama is smarter than all of them put together
he will listen as his predecessor did not and make decisions based on the input of all he feels he needs to hear from. I voted for his judgment and am willing to let him use it.

7. Obama promised the end to partisan politics why would he do otherwise?
The impression I got was this was the stimulus package he wants and that meeting with the GOP was not about compromise but listening to additional ideas that might help with the package.

Just because Bush did it to us for 8 years doesn't mean it's what we have to do. It's time we change politics to where we debate over the issues and not this nasty bickering we dealt with for 8 years.

13. the Dems compromise away their principles even when they are in power.
I believe in bi-partisan when it makes sense. They never make sense. I don't believe in porking up the bill but education and infrastructure are not pork projects.

Also... we tried it their way! It didn't work!

9. You guys really should calm down
I've always said that we've lost so many elections because we don't know how to fight. The only thing that he's reportedly changed was the funding for family planning.

There probably IS a lot of pork in the bill that could be eliminated.

I can't believe so many folks are so skittish. I don't want to be in a fox hole with a lot of folks on this board(or in my party).

Always hand wringing and not realizing that it ain't politics as usual
as far as Barack Obama is concerned, even if some think so right this minute.

22. This is so true
I remember people getting upset with him because he didn't hit back like they wanted at Hillary or McCain.

Some people should watch some old Muhamed Ali fights. Ali would float around the ring and sometimes let the opponents pin him against the ropes. After the opponents tired themselves out chasing him around the ring and hitting him Ali would go in for the close. That close was usually a knockout.

I don't think people realize that we have the power to change the game. That's what this election was about.

26. Folks will soon understand.......
Rome wasn't built in a day,
and the US won't be repaired from 8 years of Bush damage
in a week.

To think so is to not have a clue.

We yearn for revenge and putting people in their places,
while President Obama works on actually getting things done.

Yeah, I know. He's playing chess, while they're playing checkers. It just gets so frustrating. President Obama is a reasonable man. 11. I wish he would ask them one question ... in public:
Edited on Tue Jan-27-09 03:23 PM by BattyDem
"We've had huge tax cuts for the last 8 years and our economy is on the brink of collapse, so why do you think they'll help the economy now?"

The GOP needs to be called out in public! They need to explain why the entire country should trust their method when that method hasn't worked in the past. What's changed? Why will tax cuts suddenly become the magic bullet that will stimulate the economy when they never have before?

When they don't have a real answer, Obama can say, "Well, that's why I think we need to try something different, so perhaps you should explain to the American people why you want to continue with something that has already failed."

Mr. President ... STOP playing nice with them! They are a bunch of spoiled brats! By treating them with civility, you're not earning their respect, you're just proving to them that they can stomp their feet and get what they want.

and I know Obama wants the support of all the people and that would include Republican support but having to listen to a party who fucked up the country whine about a stimulus that helps Americans is tiresome.

33. LOL... Saw clip of Boehner... they want to stay relevant... talking about jobs
all the red meat you can stand.... but where were they the last 8 years. Spreading the wealth to their base. He's so tanned and talking like he's got a lot of credibility. He may not know this but Obama is kind to listen. Sometimes listening does create more relevance for a party that doesn't want anything more than power for themselves.

Obama! Stop this madness! Think about the people first and worry about the Republican bully pulpit later. They don't have a leg to stand on based on the last 8 years.
